$249USD per plugin is still too expensive, if you compare the prices from Elemental Audio. Like I said... it's as with Waves, just because the name is standing on it, it's more expensive. Doesn't mean that it's better of course (like I said... most Waves stuff is only worth 1/4th of the price!).

And yeah, I have to agree with the articles in Sound on Sound. He shoots over the topic and starts on rambling about stuff that was never asked. Then put a nice picture in the article, another one of ths studio - BAM... popular engineer knows shit. Yeah right.

And we have to thank him for the electronic Cher shit? Well thanks a lot.

Guess I support those who really deserve it:
Voxengo (Aleksey), Kjaerhus Audio (Torben, can hardly wait for your other mastering plugins), PSP (though they're a bit overpriced and use PACE) and all other low budget firms I forgot in this list.

"Cheap Tools" don't necessarily mean that they're worse in terms of mastering. A lot of "so called engineers" really have to take a step back.

I don't think many people are going to spring for these plugs, but if it's true that the EA guys are still working (as RND), then any brand-new plugin that's released should draw some attention.
Still... the iLok is a big problem. Hell, I have but don't use an iLok and I'll still be unlikely to try these plugs out for that reason, even if they were free.

Every day that goes by I use my computer less and less for audio. I'm sick of specs and arguments about DAWs and what artifacts might be lurking at -150dB, and tiny little imperceptable differences at insane sampling rates, and copy protection and iLok and dongles, and will I be able to use this plug on my new computer, what is the perfect host, boring magazines like SOS, paying for and beta testing already released software that I don't actually "own" at all, and Mr. Nichols has certainly dumped his share of this crap on the world.
Watching an old codger with his impressive client list and alien paranoia trying to get hip with the kids is like watching grandpa try to learn to break dance. I'm wincing because I know for sure he's gonna fall and break his hip.
I'll marvel at the new technology, but I'm a musician, not a scientist. I'll use it how and when I want, I'll do it all wrong, I'll break every established rule, if it's fun, I'll do it that way. These days I dream of hardware.

interesting question arke but i dont know ... IS there anyone out there wanting to 'remake' neodynium ???

... bduffy ... yeah ... but another plugin that uses neodyniums approach to compression shouldnt be an issue as long as its not a 1 for 1 rip-off ...

No shit. I've read somebody say that this plug was just another compressor. Like hell it is. What other compressor can chirurgically expand up dialog in an interview recording while compressing down the noise floor and an overbearing engine noise? By dB band? None, this plug is without par, period, and it pisses me off no end the see it swept from under my feet like this.

I don't know. Maybe somebody is doing it for the dev contest? That would fairly rock, since it would be free.

Yes, it really is amazing. Its been on my to-buy list for a while and I really regret not having bought it.

Something I've been considering, is for plugins that I want that are iLok protected, don't buy them, download the cracked version, and advertise that I use them, that iLok is worthless, and that I would buy the product instantly if they were to switch to a serial number form of protection. If I ever do start doing that, Neodynium will be the first plug in my VstPlugins folder.

Or, I can hope that some dev remakes Neodynium.

This whole bitching about iLoks is retarded. I can't believe more people aren't doing what many savvy but moral people have been doing -- pay for the software, use the crack. I buy all my software and leave the box on my display shelf. I take the manual out, and forget about the box, forget about registration and authorization hassles, and install from the crack. It's sad that the crack installer is usually significantly more painless and easy than paid. I've also found, contrary to popular belief, that cracked plugins are more stable because copy protection is bypassed.

So big deal -- another iLok plugin. Just buy it, and use the crack. I own over 30 plugins, there is no way I have the time at this point to deal with remembering all the serials, registration methods, blah blah anymore. I can't believe people that own a lot of plugins spend time on this either. Its terrible. Buy the software, use the crack.

I will continue to use Elemental Plugs, but I am very wary of this Roger Nichols fellow, who seems to be running a ship that is shakey. Changing prices like this so quickly makes me think he does not have a very sound business plan.

Without a good infrastructure in sales and marketing, he is doomed. It sounds like he did not bring any people with plugin or audio industry sales/marketing, and is trying to do this himself on the cheap with people he knows. This will bomb.

Agreed with Neodynium. Great plug-in.
I don't see the big deal about ILOK, really. I never used ILOK until I decided that I wanted PSP Neon HR. It takes up a USB port--big deal. I can understand why developers use it. Elemental Audio said that too many people were stealing their product.
This whole thing makes me think about the other companies from whom I purchased plug-ins--PSP and Voxengo. Are these manufacturers going to be around for awhile? Or will they meet the same end as EA?
