Hi all,

I'm new to the forum

I know this might seem lame but until I can afford a $100 USB controller (next payday) I would like to be able to use my computer keyboard to play some simple lines in VST's and Reason, etc. Can anyone recommend a nice (free) one?

I have played around with a few and I RTFM with all of them and can't get them to work.

Any ideas?

Fully understand your point. There are some drivers that allow you to do this, and some sequencer has this feature. If you're into FL, try pressing Ctrl+T to activate it.

I use MiniHost to do just that...only loads one VST at a time itself but it outputs the keyboard presses to midi if you want it to...so does MidiOX...which I also use occasionaly for this purpose...

MidiKeyHook. It requires you to install a virtual midi cable driver like loopBe1, Maple, or MidiYoke. I wrote it because I wanted something that worked with Reason without having to switch apps to activate the Midi keystrokes.

There are some key combinations that won't be possible on a PC keyboard.
