I want to try the Amplitube2 demo, but this is my situation :

I have one standalone PC only for music (with Cubase SX3 and Syncrosoft dongle) and a laptop for connection to the internet.

Do I only install the Syncrosoft key on my laptop to activate the software or do I have to install the entire Amplitube2 demo on it ?

I ask this because I saw the following on IK's site : "Do not try to download the AmpliTube 2 License on your Syncrosoft key before having installed the AmpliTube 2 Demo on your system."

No big problem in the case of Amplitube, but what if I require an activation for a program that's several gigabytes in size ?! :-o Oh well, that's progress I guess.

Peter.

who makes a downloadable, dongled, several gigabyte program???

You would have to plug in your dongle on the laptop, install Ampltitube 2, update license, then repeat on desktop. I would think.

I never talked about a downloadable program ?! :?

I just meant that I would have to copy the whole program on my laptop first and then, after I get the activation code, on my desktop. In the case of large programs (like eg. Miroslav) which require a dongle, this could take a while.

But Miroslav comes on discs. You would have to install it twice if you wanted to use it on both computers. I think your wording confused me.

That's my point ! I'm not looking forward to install large programs twice. In the case of Amplitube2 this is no problem, but I will avoid large programs with Syncrosoft dongle in the future.

Oh, well, there you go. But...correct me here, I don't see the difference between installing a very large program on two computers with or without a dongle? You still have to do it twice.

My point is that I shouldn't have to install things twice. I just want to install them once, on my music desktop. But this doesn't seem possible in my case (no internet on my desktop) with programs that require activation on a dongle via the internet.

Oh yeah, that's right. Sorry, it's the morning. duh. Yep, another Joy Of Dongles thread! I think you're fine if you just take the dongle over to the other computer...if it still wants to connect online, then I'd contact the vendor and see if they could work something out. Lame, but looks like this is the way things are heading. :(

dont think the synchrosoft dongle needs the program to be there - you install the synchrosoft drivers

go to add licence put in the code youve got and your donw

you can then install the software on the net free computer and your dongle is already prepared

but don't quote me on that
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

I have no problem with dongles, but I dislike the fact you need an internet connection to activate them. Not everyone has their music PC connected to the internet.

But enough about dongles now, I'm going to test the Amplitube2 demo ! 8)

Oh man, you are in for a treat! I've been testing this out, and I think this blows away the competition.

I've found an old PCI modem which I will install on my music PC. I hope the Syncrosoft program only downloads the activation code and doesn't do a full update through my slow modem ! :-o

bduffy, do you know if the demo contains all the amps and fx from the full version ?

Yeah, AFAIK. Whatever it's got, it freakin' smokes!!! Believe me, it's more than enough. :D
