update on my part - I've gotten Roland HP 137 Digital Piano and I like its action a lot.

it's even sweeter deal because I got it from a friend that hasn't got space for it, so I'll keep it for a year or ten (he's going to be a father in a month so that's why).

nice.

as it is topic related and I don't want to create a new, similar thread, it is my time to ask:

what would you recommend ME to get for good action and light-weight?

I have sold my P200 since I felt it was a waste using it only as a controller for the piano libraries I got.

My gear pimp is trying to sell me the new Casio CDP-100, which is about 450€. Actually if it doesn't suffer of the same velocity issue crapola, it may be a good idea, as I find the action better than say the P70, which is another possibility.

I am not going to buy the UF8, action may be ok, but it's big and IMHO ugly. Couldn't stand the M-Audio PRo Station 88.

I may as well try to find a used FP-3, a bit ugly but light, action ain't bad, if it's the same as on the FP-5. Or a P90, a bit more pricey even used.

Any constructive feedback is welcome!

Have a look at Casio's PX-310, I've had a play of it and its pretty good. I found it much better than the Yamahas. And it is also around the price of P70.

A bump to tell you that:

I bought that Casio CDP-100: I don't care for the sounds, but it had the best action in that price class (about 440€) and I am going to use it for piano parts with sample libraries, so I should do fine.

I still have to hook it up and check how it behaves. I'll let you know.

I don't know the model numbers. I didn't write them down.
They must be the new Privias, PX-110 and PX-310. I have no experience with them, but as far as MIDI transmition goes, I think they are fine. On the Privia PX-110 manual, there is a MIDI implemintation page that state clearly that for velocity NOTE ON, the range is 1-127. The manual is here: http://ftp.casio.co.jp/pub/world_manual ... 0/01_e.pdf

They should also be able to transmit half pedal signals if you buy the triple pedal unit that Casio has for it.

Best.

Have been playing with this Casio digital piano (CDP-100) and Cubase.

I went :D :D :D

I can't believe I got such a good weighted 88 keys master keyboard for less than 400€ / 500 $ which is probably less than say the CME UF8 or Studiologic/Fatar. Sure, it has no fancy knobs or other options than the midi i/o but....the keys compare very favorably, actually I like their feel much better. It's not a Yamaha P300 neither it was meant to be.

The only concern I got with it is the velocity curve. :?: I'm not at all sure that it can get past 100. I haven't jumped on it but it looks like it hits a wall at about 95. I think I'll be able to found a workaround, editing notes velocity, while tedious, isn't really that hard.

Anyway, it's the best of two worlds, connected with my DAW it powers my piano samples (Vintaudio C7, PMI Emperor and more), with my DAW turned off it's the ideal sketch pad and rehearsal mate. Idea of the year!
