A new (at least for me) soundware developer:

www.indiginus.com

They seem to be going against the current sampling trends - instead of making multi GB libraries for softsamplers they're focusing on smaller instruments for Akai hardware samplers. It's actually kind of refreshing to hear what can be done with these smaller instruments (and some impressive musicianship). Here's one of the demos for their acoustic guitar library:

Their next upcoming product also looks interesting. Solid State Symphony is an orchestral library with a difference - all sections of a symphony orchestra are emulated using nothing but analog synths:

I am surprised you didn't link to this:

I know it's in the other link you provided but only if people can be bothered to try it. I think this is an astonishing combination of efficient sample programing and musicianship... all done on an Akai S2000 (now available for S5/6000, Z-series and MPC4000). Makes ya wonder!!! ;)

A supremely talented guy whose work I shall be promoting at HS.

And having been raised on Tomita, Larry Fast et al, his 'Solid State Symphony' is right up my street.

Yes, it's a great demo and it also shows the instrument in isolation.

Personally, I still prefer the Attitude demo - it's actually one of my all time favourite sample demos, right up there with the Precisionsound stuff. Just hearing it made me want to buy this library - and I have plenty of acoustic guitar samples.

I know what you mean - it's a friggin amazing demo and hard to believe that it's not 'the real thing'!!

And there's this from the same guy....

A 'showreel' prepared for TV music gigs by the looks of it. Skillful (IMO)

I've been conversing with Tracy for the past few weeks and I have been privileged to have had a play with both the Acoustic Guitar sample set as well as the Solid State Symphony set which is in the final stages of production, from what I can gather.

These are indeed superb sample sets ! :)

The guitars are very flexible and intuitive to use. I actually thought I sounded really good playing them, and that is the highest compliment I can pay as anything that makes me sound like I know what I'm doing must be good !! :) :)

What I particularly like is Tracy's use of the Akai's Multi function. He has provided Multi's that can be loaded up and used straight away for multi instrument composition within your chosen sequencer. A very clever addition and one that is not exploited enough by larger commercial dev's that charge 3 or 4 times the price.

Tracy's stuff is superb and I thoroughly recommend it. I'll be doing some more in depth reviews for the Akai Users Forum later this month, so watch this space :) (or that space !)

Wonderful demos. Keepers.

I wonder how well the samples will convert to other formats.

I don't have an Akai sampler.
How much do those samplers cost anyway?
I could only find Mpc samplers at musicians friend and they were $2-3000. I don't expect to be buying one of those!

I imagine they'd convert well enough but it would be a fair old chunk of work I imagine.

:)

Apart from an MPC4000 (which could play these but would be total overkill), an 'ordinary' MPC would be totally useless for these samples.

Used S5/6000s and Z-series, however, go for $500 on eBay... sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the usual things: condition, installed options, etc..

The sampler or the samples?

I think the samples are very reasonably priced.

Ignore him P.T.

Everyone else does ;)

I was thinking of using the Chicken Systems Free converter.

They say they do Akai s5000 to other formats.

They do indeed :) Use the free version and see how they go. You will probably find you need to tweak the programs once they're in your chosen destination format, but nothing too strenuous :)

I tell you, these are really good sample sets. I was blown away by them, and trust me, if Steve Howell says he likes them, I can't think of many compliments better than that :)

The only thing it seems to be lacking is hammer-ons and pull-offs.
I'd really like to have those.

Has anyone got this yet?

I'm wondering how it is in actual use.
