Arpeggiators like what is on the Motif ES-8. Do they exist?

So the keyboard I've been waiting for for a while(and still waiting) is the Motif ES-8. I drool every time I go to the store and play it. But I can't justify a $3000 purchase right now.

Anyways, the ES-8 has some really cool effects that I BELIEVE are the arpeggiators at work. Like on a guitar part, hit one key and it will play one pattern. Then you can actually add as many keys as you want and the pattern gets more complex.

Is this the arp? If not, what is it? And is there anything that does that in software. I know there are arpeggiators out there, but are there any that work like that?

For the record, if what I'm asking is in every arp, then I apolagize. I NEVER use arps. But I would like to experiment with one if I found one like that.

Thanks.

Arpegiator wish thread #62

Strangely, no developer seems at all interested in this obvious market gap.

You can create your own arpeggios in Energy-Xt, by creating a midi clip and assigning a note to that clip.

Yeah, but does it really work the same? It's more of a one note pattern arranger. You'd have to hear it to really see how remarkable the arps are. But again, it's not a traditional arpegiator. It doesn't just play single notes up and down the keyboard or alternate notes. It plays a pattern based on the note you press. And the more notes you press, the more complex it gets. But it would be patterns such as guitar "struts". I'd have to let you hear it, but I don't know if there are samples anywhere.

I used to own a Motif ES-Rack, the arp on the thing was incredible! I ended up having to sell it (long story) but if there's anything I miss, it's the arpeggiator.. sigh.

I can't quite get ERA2 to do it, maybe Phrazor will someday. :(

I've played a Mo ES, so i know how the arps sounds. Quite good indeed. How about the arp in sonar? Surely SOMEONE out there has created a program for arps?

Post

Sorry keyman, I wasn't trying to assume you didn't know what they sounded like. But I guess my statement kinda sounded that way.

I would pay a decent amount for an arp that would do this. My wife and I have spent too much money recently(even this week we're getting DirectTV and Sunday Ticket), so there is no way I could get away with a new keyboard. But if I could get ahold of the arps like the Motif has, that would be special. Is there even anything close?

I haven't tried the one in Sonar yet, as I'm still expirimenting with it. But I'll take a look.

I hope a dev can jump on this. I wish I had more time to advance my own coding skills quicker, and then I could try. But I'm nowhere NEAR at that point yet.

You can do plain arps in energyXT with the Chord thingy, which is sorta counterintuitive, but whatever.

I agree that there is a severe lack of arpeggiators. I miss my Yamaha Rm1x.

If you can't splash 3k on a Mo ES8 then how about the MO8. Everything's mosty there except for the sampler and the extra outputs. Its 1599 and you could get it for less.

I've owned the original MOTIF, and the ES Rack, and the only reason I miss them is the arp. There is nothing in software that compares. I think a part of the reason is the integration, e.g. Yamaha Mega-Voices, and the fact that sound design consideration went into pairing patches and phrase arps.

I don't know if you're familiar with Phrasemaster but it can be set up to do some phrase arp'ing, but you have to have your own phrases (build or buy...)

I guess you could combine it with twiddlybits to do what you need.

edit: whoops wrong twiddlybits...

Wait, that's all that separates the MO from the Motif?! Are you f**king kidding me?

Hi,

you can try my ERA. It's Arp is really flexible. Phrazor, which is currently in preview-stage will get an even more powerful one :-) but already allows poly/mono playback of phras(z)es.

btw: Suggestions for the Arpeggiators are very welcome!

No:

no ribbon controller
no breth controller input
no second foot controller jack
no extra analog outs
included spdif out
no smart media (has USB to device port though)
no PLG slots
no MLAN
less inbuilt voices (but patch compatible w/MOTIF/ES/Rack)
only three insert effects in Multi Mode (same as in original MOTIF/Rack, 8 in ES/ES Rack)
slimmed down DAW control

Ah, that's more realistic. :hihi:
