Reaper doesn't support time-signature changes yet.

But just to get this straight:

You can do all sorts of time-signatures/time-signature changes with any host.

If the sequencer 'supports' it it mainly helps to visualize in a better way what you are doing.

much of DT's stuff is imho a good example of how not to do it - on the other hand Genesis, Rush, the Police and Marillion all have incredibly catchy and melodic passages with a natural flow that use all kinds of odd time-signatures while the untrained ear barely notices that something unusual is going on.

I'm a sucker for great hooklines - for me the value of music has always to be within itself but not within characteristics of its form. I know there are a lot of DT fans who talk like this: 'wow - and then suddenly they move from 13/16 to 7/8, then there's a short break in 5/4, then it constanly alternates on each second bar between 9/16 and 17/16 for ten bars, before it finally goes back to the main theme but not in 7/4 as in the beginning of the song but in 13/16 instead - pure genius!' - music isn't automatically 'good' just because it is complex and difficult to accomplish.

when I compose I sually don't care about the time-signature at all - I just play it because I like it - only when I try to record it I notice there's something 'wrong'...

I agree, but it seems like you are predjudiced the other way -- just because something is technically hard doesnt mean its not emotional or good musically.

its not just DT either...
what about coheed and cambria, for instance... they do some weirdly cool things as well.

there are things that are 4/4 that i think are very interesting as well. different time signatures are not a must for me in music -- but if they can be pulled off tastefully, then i love it/.

Uhm....You can ask a guy named Aphex Twin about time signatures. I am sure that he will explain you a lot of things and facts about time signatures
