I was looking at a Zoom PS04-Does come with some cool little bells & whistles, & $200 is tough to beat...

I'm using a SP-404 primarily for sample playback. Not interested in the pattern sequencer stuff at all.
Before I had a SP-303 and traded it for a SP-404 because the first one was too limited in flash rom memory (sp-303 max. 15 minutes @ 44,1 khz stereo / sp-404 max. 3.5 hours with 1 gig cheap compact flash cards).
It does for me what it does. The sound quality is good and the number of samples which can be imported is 48 (12 pads x 4 banks). Samples can be as long as a complete song if you like (I'm using it for both triggering complete songs and shorter samples).
Importing from CF card is a little awkward but once you know how it works, it'll be fine.

The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.
