I've searched through the big list of samples, I must have clicked 75% of the links and most of the samples are drum loops. This isn't good if you're trying to build your own kits. An exhaustive list of places to to find individual drum hits is in order. (I personally am trying to find Trance sounds but any type of sound will be appreciated as other people have different tastes and would benefit from such a list.)

* You can construct kits out of loops using a beat slicer.

* What sampler you use for drums sounds? This might help point you in the right direction

* For Trance, wouldn't a synth be more suitable than using samples (just asking, don't know much about Trance production though I'm from Israel)

FPC, It's a pretty decent drum sampler.

Don't know of any sample sets specially made for FPC, but using FPC suggests your'e FL user - so you have a slicer at ypur disposal. So take those loops and chop away.
Also - don't you FL people got tons of sounds with your host? Some must be geared toward Trance

Also test some free drum synth - Drumatic for instance, and roll your own sounds

As an FL user, you should have a large amount of samples available for download by using the "Download more Presets..." option at the bottom right.

Also, check the downloadable FPC kits:

(you need to have your browser cookie for FLStudio set to download these)

I've gotten all of these, however none are suited towards trace.

As for your more general inquiry - drum kits in general.

Well, it depends. Acoustic drums can be found in the form of soundfonts i n all the usual places (sf2midi etc.), and are also provided by some indie samplists in various formats. Natural Sound Kit free is probably most well known, but offerings from SampleSteam, Pettinhouse and Giro (GSCW) are excellent as well.

For free electronic drums your'e probably getting yourself a synth. Odo has one, which I haven't tried. Drumatic is brilliant.

For weird percussive sounds, zvon demos and freebies rule. Try them when you're looking for something else (the prepared rhodes is great for IDM type stuff). The full versions are so cheap I'd probably get me some as soon as I'll have a bit of spare money.

Someone probably going to have better advice than this, but this is enough to get people started.

What drum machines are normally used for trance?

I use DR-008 for building new kits.

Samples can be sourced from all sorts of places (some good ideas in this thread).

DR-008 provides a low cost hi-spec assembly platform for making the kits.

It also has a drum synth built in, and lots of other tricks (pitch shift, velocity layering, multi-out, midi sequencer, loads of free kits, battery import, drag and drop - key feature this for speed of workflow)

Because DR-008 has 96 pads, there's lots of space, making it easy to shuffle samples around and experiment with different combinations, until the right kit sound is found.

I've tried free kit-assembly drum machines, and while they have their style and point to make, I haven't found anything with the flexibility I need, that the DR-008 delivers.

It must be my oldest plug that I still use frequently.
