Cubase: No sampler or drum machine.
FL Studio 6: No mono recording, no proper FPC, horrible in audio.
Tracktion 2: No folder tracks, no proper audio editing.
Sony Acid 6: Bugfest, never really closes, no freeze.
Sonar: Wack

Good luck!
I know Audition is great for recording and wave editing but not sure on the sampling part. If it takes VSTs which i believe it does, then you can go that route.
EnergyXT is a great host but needs a lot of work in the wave editing dept.

Macs tend to be made with the "5-6 tools is too many" crowd in mind, so Apple's Logic is maybe your best bet (has a sampler, drum machine, audio editing, synths, effects, solid midi editing, etc).jmbriley wrote:Cubase: No sampler or drum machine.

It's really not that difficult. You can do most of your audio editing in it anyway. You might keep a copy of Audacity around to take care of the other stuff. With plugins there really isn't a lot it can't do.jmbriley wrote:Sonar: Wack
On the other hand... if you're looking for a lot of high end features that have just been added to most hosts in the past few years... I doubt you're going to find anything that is that far along. There is http://www.samplitude.com/de/seq.htm but I doubt you'll be happy with that either.

The best host for everything has yet to be developed, I don't think I would want it if had been created. A combination of host and wave multi/track editor is better imo.
One designed with strength towards midi and vsti - the other with strength for audio file manipulations, maybe add in the ability for full blown video editing with hardware controller support too
Best regards,

The unfortunate truth is that you will most likely have to have the "others" no matter what host.
Logic pro is the most complete host. You get a dyno drum machine, one of the best samplers in the biz, decent audio editing, absolutely unreal/fabulous midi editing, really good synths, amazing fx and the list goes on and on.
but.......
It's expensive
it has it's issues........
the learning curve is STTTTEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPP! You never stop learning........it's just sooooo deep!
It's apple (which means they won't speak to you after 90 days..........well, you could get the service package.....it's like 1200 bucks.)
Still, I like using it
