FR: Visual indicator on parameter used to modify a track

Hi,

I was thinking about a new feature which could surely improve the usability (which is already, very… very high :D ) of LiveSlice IMHO

Very often, it can be useful to know which parameters (volume, pan, pitch etc.) are being applied on a track.
For example: Is there a reverse or pitch applied on an event of the track, or is the original event already a reversed or pitched one?
Currently, in order to verify this, we must click on each of the buttons in order to find if they are affecting the track or not.

Would it be possible to add an indicator on the parameter's button for example, in order to specify -at a glance of a track- if the parameter is being applied on the track (for example, if the pan button is showing pan* and the pitch button pitch*, it would mean that pan and pitch have been used on the track; another way of doing this could also be to change the color of the button if it is used on a track etc.)

Ohm, is that feature hard to implement (or/and would it use a lot more CPU...?)

Is that a feature that would also be useful to you guys?

Cheers,
GilJ.

i like the idea :)

how about an additional color indicator on the events which are changed by any parameters?

I'm in two minds about this.

As the parameter values are only displayed when you select the parameter, the '*'or coloured label will just indicate the existence of parameter settings. It will make it quicker to find the settings - you will not have to click each parameter to see if any have been set.

Where I have trouble is: how much value is it to know, for example, that one or more events have been repitched, if you do not know which ones or by how much?

So if this is implemented, please add an Enable/Disable switch to the Settings page?

Just my 2 cents

IMHO, the value to know that some events have been repitched in a track (and not which events) can be for example:
Let's say, we have 1 arrangement with 6 tracks in it.
While the arrangement is playing, you hear a reversed/panned/pitched sample somewhere in the arrangement and would like to remove it.
Currently, you have to peer into all the 6 tracks and hit each time the reverse/pan/pitch button (=18 clicks if you're unlucky  ) in order to find if reverse/pan/pitch has been used on the track in order to remove it...
With this function, you'll see at a glance that reverse, has been used on track number 4 for example, so you'll just have to examine this track
(P.S. It's a function that is also implemented in apps like Live or Cubase, often in a drop list where you have a lot of parameters, there's a * next to the parameters which are being used)

I think that, if the function is implemented and even if it isn't assigned as an option, it won't really bother us, as the only difference in LiveSlice would be a little * added to the parameters' buttons if they are being used in a track...
Have I been able to convince you a little more DarkStar?

GilJ.

A little, but I still don't like GUI clutter that I may only use rarely.
Hence the Preference switch.
