Sorry but i can't be that impressed by developers creating tools that solely imitate / physical model / whatever classical instruments! For f**k sake it's 2006, I understand you wanna milkcow some dsp code and become rich so you can live next to Tom Cruise on a hill, but classical instruments? Please if you have the skill to code, why not search for something more innovative.

in history emulation of classical instruments was a start to innovative sounds, one for all Hammond organs, jonas the plugexpert wrote:Sorry but i can't be that impressed by developers creating tools that solely imitate / physical model / whatever classical instruments! these technologies were developed over a decade ago. not only are they still unavailable as freeware (hearts of ice*) but they are also generally unavailable as software.jonas the plugexpert wrote:Sorry but i can't be that impressed by developers creating tools that solely imitate / physical model / whatever classical instruments! i agree that would be great and i've recommended that direction to a few people/devs over the years. thus far no one had run with that idea yet though, but perhaps thats what this dev is actually doing. its amazing what the WSA1 can do to its samples and i would love to see that sort of functionality built into something like kontakt, and having it attached to a really good resynth (where the user could analyze their own samples, not just use what comes with the synth) could be even better.FaX wrote:I always wondered why no one took the Teachnics WSA1 that step further.
In essence made just that.
A Sampler that Performs resynthesis with Physical Modelled Engine for it's synthesis engine.
Makes perfect sense to me.
The technics used samples but using accurate resynthesis would probably yield better results of infact hybridise the two with a PM modelling engine for everything else post oscillator source.

Sorry, not familiar with BFD, though I understand that it is sample based, no? With tons of different packs that can be loaded up. With a boatload of samples required to make it work, piracy gets a bit more difficult. (Though it must have SOME protection, right? Challenge/response?)Jason Brian Merrill wrote:like BFD, you mean?BERFAB wrote:I don't see how he could release a synth like this at a $300 to $500 price point WITHOUT dongle protection.Stupid American Pig wrote:...of course Pace or a dongle would be a deal breaker...I think that this could be the real deal, but what do I know.
What I meant by my comment was that it looks like this minimal cpu, no samples synth would be a fairly small program that could easily be emailed around. It would be foolish to have such an innovative (and valuable) program left unprotected. And since the trend appears to be that formerly challenge/response programs are now with dongles, this would seem like a likely option.
I don't fault anyone for trying to protect their hard work. Since I'm studio based, dongles are not a deal breaker for me, though I do understand that you journeymen with laptops can have real issues with loss/breakage from the rigors of the road. Technology will catch up with a better option sometime in the future, but for now, this is probably the best we can do.
Cheers

Yeah, maybe we should step into the future...Go for trancey sounds, gated lines and phasey HH's !!
Classical is the past (although I want to stay there, most of times!)

Correct. What makes the synth stand out is that I've done some sophisticated modeling of the behaviour of the instruments. The sounds are NOT generated through Physical Modelling (wave equation) but the instrumental behaviour have been modelled using physical equations. The tone and behaviour (and performance) of true Physical Models just can't compete with sample technology (yet). It's basically just a question of what level you choose to model an instrument. Samples are high-level, Physical Modelling is low-level, I'm in between.as developer note I must say that "being in between" was and isGood man! This is EXACTLY where I had hoped new development would go. Congrats to you...I think you're gonna make a killing....if you can get it to market before all of the others do!
my design method for my synths, see Knagalis and Peti mostly,
which are 3 and 2 years old now, <wink>
BTW SaxLab is going in that direction too, as I started this year to work on v2
Peti is very nice IMO - haven't tried Knagalis yet but I know I should.
What's the deal with Saxlab2 - is it gonna be a Linplug product? Kinda confusing...

I like acoustic instruments, but there's no way to record them where I live (too much noise). I've been craving realistic synthesised instruments for ages. And it's perfectly possible to make innovative music with acoustic instruments.jonas the plugexpert wrote:Sorry but i can't be that impressed by developers creating tools that solely imitate / physical model / whatever classical instruments! Jonas' comment wasn't "ignorant" at all, it's a very legitimate opinion.
Emulation has always been a kind of yardstick of technique, though. My opinion is, the examples sound very good and I hope the synth really does well! BUT I would not be interested in the synth if it didn't offer the user capabilities of making hybrid imaginary instruments and the ability to load your own samples into resynthesis.
