Do you thing its rendering degrades files any. Such as if I record a vocal track and then use Audacity to trim the files and then rerender.

Im not sure what you mean by re-render. if you were just loading them to trim the file, you make your trims and save it, the only thing that is changing is teh trims. if you change the bit depth and or sample rate it will cause some degradation, the extent of which will depend on the change you made and or dithering applied.

no, has failed too many times in realtime recording, thank god we've had backup laptop with wavelab innit

I find that with Audacity on windows, I can't overwrite the same file name twice. Something gets corrupted. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I don't think so. Open a wav, save it as 'wavetest.wav' or whatever, edit it and save it again (same filename). I do this and always get a nonsensical 'permissions' error.

That's just my experience, but it's always been that way every time I use the application. Do I trust Audacity? Not yet.

I rediscovered my old syntrillium Cool Edit Pro disk and now everything's happy happy. That is STILL a phenominal application!

I would say this is very true, conversions have always caused problems for me in Audacity but any manipulation and saving/rendering at the original sample rate/bit depth works fine for me.

Audacity gives me better results with nearly everything {file conversion, changes of bit depth, etc} than any commercial program I've used. {Believe me... I've tested it to death}

...'Course it's not quite as easy.

Do you trust Audacity?
