so often people use mostly vst:s for mastering and that is almost all they do. but they still ask what to use for it. so basically it doesn't matter what you use if you only run your tracks trough vst:s.
i have not been doing more myself then used vst:s and actually use live for that which is not even mastering software. but why should i get any if i use editing audio clips and using some vst:s??

but does mastering softwares offer some special audio treatment elements?? i don't mean any eq, compressor/limiter or any other tools that all programs have. what are those tools?? does it have some magic wizards how to treat drums or bass, whatever special??

and i'm not beginner, but i've just used live and audacity for this.

I presume from the smiley, you're simply out for a bit of trolling? I've seen better trolling though...

If you're not simply trolling...I'm not sure quite what you're on about...unless you use PT or Audio Units on a Mac, then most mastering software you'd use are VST plugins. Why do you differentiate between "mastering s/w" and VST plugins?

I've a feeling if he were around today, he'd make a real killing selling "mastering" plug-ins, though.
