Yo y'all:

I am finishing up production of the new issue of Texas Music Forge and have some audio files left over that you might find useful.

I have posted a .zip file of around 14Mb that contains 10 .wav files of my old resonator guitar played with a thick ceramic slide. These are Acid-ized as either loops or one-shots and were made as segue and stinger music. The guitar was only in tune with itself and might possibly need a bit of pitch correction if used in combination with some other instruments.

To make this pack as useful as possible, I have included various phrases as well as full samples of the I, IV and V chords in the key of F, as well as a full verse of rhythm playing - basically, this is enough to write a song with.

Dobro is the generic name for the whole family of resonator guitars. They are the acoustic guitars with the metal plates (or made entirely of metal) played with a slide. They are sometimes played horizontally by the bluegrass players. You often hear resonator guitars in blues, country and bluegrass music, as well as film and TV scoring where it is used for atmosphere.

You'll find this set of samples useful if you're a songwriter, do production audio work for film or TV, podcast scoring, game scoring, etc. Musically, these would be really fine as seasoning for rock, country, R&B and hip hop styles like Dirty South, as well as ambient, trance and electronica tracks.

I recorded these in one take with a punchy and dry "in your face" sound with plenty of pick attack and the noise from the slide working the strings - these have no processing whatsoever on them and are available for your use under the usual Creative Commons restrictions: cool to use for your personal projects and just give me credit and/or notice if you use 'em in public.

Thanks for the nods, y'all. I just now pieced a one hour show together in Sound Forge and am doing the Mp3 conversion prior to uploading it. Nothing like squeaking under a June 1 publishing deadline while battling software problems in your recording setup...

As soon as that's done, I think I've got another bunch of outtakes I can put into another .zip file. There should be some cool bass samples and loops in a "house" style and even a full reading of "She Walks In Beauty" by Lord Byron done in my best "James Earl Jones with a whiskey hangover" voiceover style. That last should be mighty amusing to cut up in a sound editor and drop into your dance, hip hop, ambient or whatever tracks.

Yours in the quest for soul and solvency,

Tio Ed

Thanks for the kind words, all. Now, on to the joy of dealing with the General Public:

Uhhh, thanks Rangtangtang, for making sure the spambots can harvest my website from my sharing some files with everyone. You have just ensured me enough spam to make sure I can always have Viagra while watching a Paris Hilton video while I'm spending all that money I'm going to get from Nigeria. No, really, thanks...

Sorry for the wordiness, the urge to explain is a human fault with writers. That and I'm a mouthy S.O.B.

Ummmmm....thanks for standing up on my behalf or whatever it was you were doing...
