It has an alpha channel...
Shane that's cool man! I'll try it in place of the other ones, if it looks good can we use it?

and a slightly brighter cone version:

Yes, feel free to use it royalty-free for all eternity. :D

I could probably do a speaker grill, too, and have it cast shadows on the cones...if interested just let me know.

@shane; For now I'm gonna use the originals, yours are much more realistic but a bit too detailed for the rest of the design. Plus how I've setup the layers in photoshop is very lazy :) Speakers on top of the grill meshes/lower speaker opacity so it looks like it's behind the mesh ;) Putting yours there looked a bit odd. And because of the detail yours has it's not playing well with the other layers (the ones I have setup for colorizing already, etc).

If you want to do a grill/mesh that has transparency (to the same size as the current speaker) feel free and I could try that, but I'd need 2x12, 4x12, and 4x10 -- and the mesh/grill if it was done in grayscale I could then colorize it for each of the different requirements; black, gray, brown, light brown, green, gold.

If you don't wanna that's fine, I am fine with the existing speakers.

Thanks. How did you create that thing? At it's full size it's uber realistic, even the cloth outer edge has tiny bends and folds. :)

Is the area where the speakers go precisely 148 x 102?

I'll have to have a look at it tomorrow. In the meantime, I've uploaded a .psd of this file. The trick will be finding the happy medium between a realistically spaced grille and one that will look correct when scaled down to the actual pixel dimensions. There's a point it hits fuzzy land. Have to experiment with it.

At any rate, once one of the ratios works, the other speaker configs would work. I'd only need to scale the 12" down to 10".

I think the approach you've taken may be the best one due to what happens when things are scaled down. A silverface grille like you have now can only be achieved at that small size via illusion methinks. One alternate thing to try, and I'll check it out, would be to make a clean one-pixel wide grille as a separate layer, and apply it over the scaled down realistic speakers and then play with diffuse properties and Photoshop shadows to get them to feel like they are in the same space.

ahhh well, a one-pixel grille really doesn't do much for me. It's not any better than what you have. It just looks like a different kind of face, but not a better kind of face.

Just quickly made it in a 3D program. Not much to it really. The main thing was putting the right texture on the outer cone.

woohoo! It's done.

I'm not quite sure what to think about it ... It's alot of shit going on at one time. My eye wants to go all over the freaking place. Hrmm..

Thoughts?

Yeah I can use this grille though if you don't mind? See if it works out.. Right now I've got the same mesh with different colors, may be cool to change it up a bit and try your grill on 4x10 or something?

I like the mescaline colors myself. I'd use it if I were you.
