I still think those old Zoom units are better than all the sim's out today. They sound better than the real thing most of the time too. That's why Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page always used them. Well, at least from Zeppelin III on up.

are you sure zoom was around in 1970? I can't be positive but I'm pretty sure that zoom did not exist then...in fact I would guess they go back to early 80's...Vocalvoodoo wrote:I still think those old Zoom units are better than all the sim's out today. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

errmm, i dunno, but havent you been banned a couple of times?DaveSmom wrote:By badly run, I meant the mods don't even seem to attempt to keep the trolls in check. A simple reporting/monitoring system with an initial warning and then if they keep it up... a week ban.... If they return and mess up yet again, then delete account. Couldn't be simpler
And, some of those mods seem to have vested interests. This is TOTALLY wrong IMHO. ie. There seems to be one rule for some and another rule for the rest. Again... a sign of poor management
Also, why do the mods hide. What are they afraid of? Being wrong?

... my own thoughts about the moderation of KVR are well-rehearsed and often stated so im not going to repeat them here ... suffice to say grymmjack is pretty close (no idea what ben REALLY thinks though but he lets the rest of us get on with it happily enough i think) ...
... has been said bluntly many times ... if you dont like the way KVR is run go find somewhere else ... if the general 'trolling' and perceived mismanagement that happens here REALLY upsets you (specific personal attacks are another matter) then perhaps youre not cut out for the interweb at all ...

It is not about ampsims, but about attitude and knowledge. It would be just the same if someone with nickname "MilesArmstrong" would claim he has a greatest trumpet in the world, even he paid just 300 bucks in a local store for it, and that what he plays with it is soundwise undistinguishable from trumpet Miles Davis played... poor stupid musicians having to spend all this money because of their ignorance. Or that he is using antares mic modeller and there is no need for Neumann because his sm58 sounds EXACTLY like any Neumann with Mic Modeller. His friend also listened to his vocal with mic modeller and to real Neumann and couldn't hear the difference...Hink wrote:but you didn't fit the profile of what I was speaking about...in fact cudos to you because you tried to start the thread off the way it should go by saying "in your opinion"...you didn't make a proclamation of being infallible...I'm like you, I'm going to try most things...but I wont try AT2 only because I don't want to buy a dongle to do so, especially when I have a preconceived bias...I might go up to GC sometime and try it, or perhaps one day my ilok can be coded...or maybe I will get something one day with the same dongle...but I won't lie...I'm still totally biased against using a pluggin based solution because I want to conserve my cpu and even the slightest latency gets perceived by me as a bad thing...my perception likely is dead wrong, but it's a part of who I am...AndrewSimon wrote:Not quite, the original poster decided that GR2 is great without testing AT2 and in his words he doesn't need to.no drama...jusy expressing my grief that everyone of these subjective threads turns into the same thing...the original poster likes GR2...that's awesome...unfortunately too many people puff out their chest and have to explain why he is wrong
As someone who used both I felt the need to point out that in my opinion he is wrong.
So it is about immaturity of a person, and when I see it in real life, sometimes I may ignore it, sometimes not, but I think if someone has wrong idea because of their lack of knowledge and experience, it is not personal attack at them or tools they use if someone comments on that. It does not makes my penis bigger, but it may help other person get more realistic about it if other people tell him the truth.
If it is all great would be much more simple for this guy to post 3 min audio clip with all those amazing presets and make our jaws hit the floor, instead of elaborating on theory that Marty Friedman is retarded because of wasting time on micing amps instead of just using Guitar Rig... I mean, it is all the same right? No one sees the difference
I am giving guitar lessons a lot and I often meet young cocky guitar players coming with all sorts of "innovative" theories without any real knowledge and expertise so maybe it is just me becoming too reactive on this sort of stuff.

Judging from some forums with lot of metalheads, POD XT with metal pack addon is still favorite choice among amp modellers.Lunatique wrote:So has any of these softwares gotten the much missing high gain sound for metal/industrial music right yet?

Yes, I'm not going to buy a dongle just 30 AT2 starts or 10 days. A demo that cost you money? come on...markdeaton wrote:I'm confused. Why are you relying on another guitarist and not trying out the demos? Is it because of the "dongle" USB thing?

Well all guitars and bass tracks in this page are done with GR2. Some of them are very old presets improved later. But I think these are good tones. There are some examples, only examples.

Last night I was in a very good mood...my seemingly aggravated rant was half sarcasm, half truth and not really aimed at anyone on that page...I'm sure many who read it (like Davesmom) saw it just as that.
Let me set the stage some, in the last months generally by the same few people I have been told.
1. I do not play with feeling at all...yet who here can actually state what I am feeling, or how I express that?
2. I have been told that my phrasing is wrong, not that they do not like it...it's wrong which too me is beyond arrogance.
3. I have been told that I am a "just for fun" player because I do not see things the way they do. I'm never going to get rich playing, nor do I care. However I have never said I am better than anyone, I do not judge other people's music and I act with respect. I am very passionate about my playing, it's one of my great joys in life and has been longer than many here have been sucking air. That doesn't mean I'm better than someone, it certainly doesn't mean I'll never be as good as others. It means that I can extract pure pleasure for myself just playing, it means it keeps me balanced and on even ground. "Just for fun" was a comment that was so demeaning and condescending that I will bring up again and again because it shows how huge the ego is on some people.
4. I have been told that my sound is wrong...again not that someone doesn't like it, but actually it's wrong.
5. Everyday there are some who just want to put words in peoples mouths so they can boost up their own obviously low self-esteem.
6. TBH this boils down over the couple years I have been here to about 6 people max.
The truth is I am an accomplished guitar player (not the best, not the worst) who has mastered getting what I need from music, I have seen a lot of guitarists go to the highest heights achievable in the superficial world only to end up very let down, quite sad and miserable in their own existence. They never found what they were looking for all those years and they masked it with drugs, booze, egos and arrogance, some suicide. Many of them forgot about the passion they once had.
I on the other hand have the greatest gift I could ask for. When I'm stressed I can relax by picking up my guitar, when I'm sad I can cheer up by playing my guitar (to this there is no argument, some here know after a tragic accident my guitar is what saved my life). I love my passion and it hasn't faded, it grows.
When I'm in a great mood I can enhance it by playing my guitar. My gift does not in anyway make me gifted, nor is it a statement of talent...it's just my gift in life that I am quite thankful I was blessed with...others achieve the same thing jumping out of planes, fishing, mountain climbing, playing video games, watching tv, playing sports, having sex, eating, drinking, drugging, riding, bowling, painting, sculpting, spelunking, deep sea diving, being couch potatoes, talking politics, going to church, going to school, photography, posting on line...the list goes on...my point is I am thankful for my gift, I am humbled by my gift, I love my gift (and tbh I was like many boys my age growing up, wanting to be a pro ball player, but then I joined little league and forgot about that).
Someone here in the last week actually had the inflated ego to reduce that to "just for fun" which means to me that they really do not understand at all what being an artist is about and what passion means. Any way you look at it, it's absolutely moronic. Even worse I would like to be this persons friend, I think we have a lot in common, but their nose is so high in the air it doesn't hardly seem worth it anymore. But then if they don't want to listen to me me and possibly learn something from me I still have no problem listening to them and learning from them, that would make them the loser in the end imo.
If I suck (in their eyes) and still have been playing for just about 35 years, certainly there is something positive for me in playing, and that should earn some respect (at least the same respect I give others), because it proves my passion outweighs my ego. If I am just so-so (which is how I feel), it proves that I am keeping it real and and my passion is a well balanced part of my life. If some people think I'm the bees knees, that's quite humbling and it makes me feel good, which is a bonus to all the rest.
But I am so tired of what is the best, I'm tired of absolutes by people who have yet to mature to the level that they realize that what you like today you might see in a different light when you grow. People need to keep it real..lets share thoughts, not trade insults.
Do you want to know what the best amp/sim/guitar/synth/tool is?...whatever one I am using...but it's not better than anything else, it's just best for me at that moment in time because it is giving me immense pleasure.
Do you want to know who the best guitar player is on earth? Me, because I can get so much joy from my playing...which is best for me...but that does not make me better than anyone no matter how long they have been playing. Nor does it make me worse than anyone else, those who attempt to put me down because they don't like me are the ones who have issues.
When someone else said this week that you can't play fast and play with emotion I thought "what a first class idiot"...I like to play fast, so when I do I am happy, if I am happy who are they to judge...if they don't like it, turn it off...if they feel the need to attack me then something is missing in their life, not mine.
But then there are those who must put themselves down by attacking others (though they are so narrow minded they will never be able to see that), they must keep working hard to be "better" than everyone else, then they will get that validation they have been chasing for so long...the same validation I can get just playing "Mary had a little lamb".
There was a thread recently called "Musicians are snobs"...I guess that's why I don't hang out with a lot of musicians. In fact I just went through this with my best friend when he said he was giving up music and part of the reason is I do not want to be in another band...and he desperately wants to relive our lives in the 80's...I don't...because it's true, many musicians are huge snobs. One of the greatest things I like about KVR is that many people here do not play physical instruments and seem to miss that elitist attitude as a result...but imho they are real musicians...but at least they are real and I can relate to them as a result...there are also many people here who play physical instruments here who see it as I and I care for them dearly as well because their friendship is a prize possession.
Now I will play my guitar, I will be happy because it's my passion...not governed by those who are just setting themselves up to fail. Like I say there are only a small group that fit this category...but seriously they need to get over themselves and have fun...they will never be better than me and I will never be better than them...but because I don't care about being better than them I can concentrate on being better each day...and quite often while playing, my own playing moves me to tears of joy...that is the greatest gift of all...I hope one day everyone learns that, but some are to hell bent on being the best instead of being the best they can and they will never understand...![]()
So VaiHalen (someone who I respect), I'm sorry GR2 is not the best, but I am elated it's the best for you...
and fwiw you do not fit the profile of the negatives I pointed out, in fact the exact opposite...but the comment "it's the best" feeds this misconception that "best" really exists globally.
sorry for the hi-jack...if enough people want me to leave kvr I have no problem with that...I'll go.
OMG.
Not sure if I undertand well your post, my english is not very good. But anyway:
I only say that GR2 is the best sounding amp simulator I have heard till this day and I say too I have not tryed AT2 by myself. And why? Only as a try to help others to find something that will provide enless hours of joy. Of course is my opinion, this is a forum when people trys inform others about things. If AT2 is better, well then I'll be very glad because all of us, who loves guitar and music would enjoy even more. Am I a troll or snob for that? I only try to help others if I can and I ask help many times too.
A forum like that is a blessing to find out good things and discuss is the key to do it.
I cant express in english like I would do in spanish, my native language and I'm sorry that maybe my posts may result poor for that.
