I have the EXS 24 that come with logic pro, I was wondering if anybody could give me an Idea of how the filters of the EXS and kontakt compare, I really would like some high quality filters with my sampler. And also do you guys think Kontakt is the best sampler for creative audio manipulation and ease of use.

Why don't you compare by yourself:

kontakt has much more editing features.
Not only the scripings, but also the mapping, effect and controller features
are far better than in EXS.
If you are just looking for high-end filters, you think about an aditional effect plug-in.
Filters in kontakt are ok, but not high-end.

Filters in Kontakt2 are wonderful very high end. Also check out Emulater X2 with the Z filters and being able to create your own. Seriously the Filters in K2 are great!

I thinn Kontakt is far and away the most useful sampler out there with it's many, many, many features. You can use some of them and not use others, since it's modular.
Concerning the filters, you have tons of choices, however, I think there's a mising link taht there's not a good enough filter for bass sounds. The EXS filter is excellent for those type of things and really doesn't have a proper equivilant in Kontakt - yet!
Do try the demo, it'll tell you a lot.

i don't quite follow that, Garth - the Ladder filter is great for bass sounds, as is the 4 pole -as well as the pro-53..
surely its about the waves you put through the filter more than anything? Personally i think the filters are very nice indeed, and the saturation module is good for further fattening.

I tried all the major samplers in choosing which synthesis engine for my commercial library... and I use a lot of synthesis. Kontakt won out by a long stretch.
Filters are only as good as the material you give them
and I have to say the Kontakt filters are amazing when programmed right. I love my E64 hardware sampler filters, but would never go back to it from Kontakt 2.

You're probably right - I'm just comenting through my eyehole of converting filter-programmed EXS sounds and never really getting the best results no matter what I tried.soniccouture wrote:i don't quite follow that, Garth - the Ladder filter is great for bass sounds, as is the 4 pole -as well as the pro-53..

And also some of that has to do with most of my experience going back to the 80's when analog filters really were responsive and wide. That's how I gauge filters, which is not a modern view, where in Kontakt you have EQ's and modeling capabilities beyond that.
