Live 6 Rumours?

I love Live 5, but I really have no plans on using it live. I wonder if Ableton should recognize that they really have two different clientels, those who use it as a studio sequencer and those who use it as a performance instrument, and build sequencers that address their needs. They could fill each with the primary tools for that particular audience and not bog it down with feature that the other would never use.

A while ago i played with the demo of Live5 and i found midi editing a pain in the arse (and i also have the feeling that 5 uses far more cpu than v4). So better midi editing tools.

During the Live 5 beta test Ableton mentioned the idea that they would like to make the Freeze even more flexible in version 6. No idea whether they have done that though...
Also I've heard talk of a Ring Modulation effect...
In terms of wishes, I would love to see a "Fast Bounce" so that you can turn MIDI clips into Audio without the need to record them over in real time. THe existing Freeze basically does this for VSTi based MIDI, but I wold love to be able to quickly bounce Rewire based/Reason clips into audio.
Plus much of the other stuff people already mentioned...

I really don't like printed manuals, I prefer having everything on screen.
I also had huge the CPU usage spiraling intpo the 2000+ percentages, and i was doing heavy stuff, but I changed some sound card settings and its back to super sweet again.
The 3 main changes id like to see are:
faster freezing (it takes AGES)
group tracks
and thirdly (someone mentioned it here earlier) is group tracks or buses like I've seen folk do with cubase. It's just not the same using sends and returns
Otherwise i love Live more than anything in this world
A few off the wishlist here seem already possible to me or am i just misreading?
To paint: select loop on the sample box and just drag one end
To slice: Surely its Ctrl+E ? But maybe u mean slice as something differnt than cut
Change start point of a clip: Using sample box. U can also use the "offset" functions parameters to have this vary to a different place automatically on its 1st, 2nd 3rd etc etc play. Same can be done with pitch trnsposition (and possibly any other parameters - haven't checked)
Not being cocky or anything - like i say I may have misread here.
If not, hope this helps some

Oh, and another FR: most of the audio effects were designed to be low-CPU and used "on-the-fly". Now that Live has developed into a DAW-type programme it would be good to see some better quality Mixing/Mastering type effects - Hard Limiter, Multiband, COnvolution, EQ7, etc...

Don't you find reading text on screen fatiguing? I find it gives me headaches after 5 minutes. Young eyes I guess.I really don't like printed manuals, I prefer having everything on screen.

I don't agree with that.headquest wrote:Oh, and another FR: most of the audio effects were designed to be low-CPU and used "on-the-fly". I like too much my VST plugins, and the fact of being able to use them in every DAW.
I do not really use Live efx, except the unique ones (beat repeat, random midi, etc.), or the reverb as it is low cpu. So i wouldn't have the use of standard efx such as compressors, eq, etc. I do prefer that developers focus on a always quicker, low cpu, esier to use dAW in its unique ness, rather than mimicinq things that exists by hundreds.
The only thing i'd request (2, in fact) :
- a convolution plugin with nearly zero latency and low cpu use in any circumstances.
- a killer beatslicer ! !
Yeah !To paint: select loop on the sample box and just drag one end
I didn't know about that : nice, thanks ! (i gave up reading the manual very quick and played music instead... i might have taken bad habits, but Live is soo good !)
I know that, i was thinking more in being able to reorganize sample slices in horizontal mode (for example : taking the end of a sample, repeating it 4 times, then taking the first half and repeating it 2 times, etc. Like i often do in Acid). To slice: Surely its Ctrl+E ? But maybe u mean slice as something differnt than cut

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy I love Live!!! Every since I have switched to using it as my sequencer my music has improved vastly. Can't really pinpoint what it is other than maybe the interface just works for me?
That being said I would like to see some groove quantize features and the midi editing improved. I just hoipe they take the time to get the first version nearly flawless this time as version 5.0 was rather buggy for most users.

That's a fair point, and from my personal use I love my Kjaerhus GEQ7 and GCO1 plugs especially, as well as the Cakewalk Perfect Space VST convolution.sinkmusic wrote:I don't agree with that.headquest wrote:Oh, and another FR: most of the audio effects were designed to be low-CPU and used "on-the-fly". I'm thinking more in terms of recommending Live to others though, such as my students. It would be nice to say (to them) that buying Live would provide them with everything they really need. I can say that with Sonar, but not yet with Live.
But that reminds me of another FR for Live - DX support! (unfortunately quite unlikely). But I would love to use my Sonitus effects and the rgc.audio synths that bundle with Sonar 5.
A strong possibility I'd say - it has been requested by so many users.- a killer beatslicer ! !
