No, you need to smoke less! :o Bloody hippies! :hihi:
funny that's not what my doctor says :hihi:...but then he loves my music too  But you know what, all joking aside...at this time of night after the days I'm having...I think I have earned that nice little glow, besides a feeling of honor and pride it's my little reward...:)

WHat do you have cancer??!!!!

I need a kidney, and I have become a vegetarian to try and help myself, as well as see a holistic healer,, and by damn it has worked (At least I dont piss blood every time), the weed was making it worse,, So I quit smoking that too,, Next is the alcohol, and yes I have kidney disease and am drinking. I quite smoking cigarettes, stopped weed, stopped basically all drugs, and MEAT!!, and alcohol is by far the hardest so far.. I would have never thought it that way..

no I don't have cancer...but the largest study of weed and lung cancer found no link between the two, but they did find thay weed actually kills some of the dying cells before they develop cancer.

What I am doing is the hardest thing I will do in my life...it's will only end with complete and utter heartache...it's not I that is sick. But I care for my 85 year old father 24/7 who fell and broke his hip and back in December, they found a large aneurysm, he has diabetes, prostate cancer...and on top of all that over the last few years I've been dealing with his alzheimer's. April 20th I moved him from a nursing home to his own apartment under me. I have to do everything for him. My days are quite long...;)

But I sorry to hear about your health, I'll keep you in my thoughts. My sister died dec of '02 from breast cancer...I don't want to burst your balloon, but she swore by her hollistic healer and it was a fatal mistake...I hope it works out for you, it has for others, but plaese don't let it get to the point it did with my sister, don't swear off modern medicine, stick to what you feel is right, but keep an open mind...you just don't get a second chance...if you ever wanna talk I'm here

Real quick cause I try to keep my little "health issues" to a minimum, but I went to doctors wqhen I first felt and noticed something wrong, and they tested and didnt find anything, I went to the next guy, who ran a number of tests on me, and then concluded exact quote "well some guys just piss blood, come back in 4 or 5 years if it is not better" hahah And mind you since I am self employed, that literally 2 months before I had the best insurance on the planet, 100% coverage, but the raised my MONTHLY rate to $1300 a month for my family,, So I changed to a very cheap, covers nothing insurance, which has covered nothing and all these doctrs cost me a very nice chunk of my money,, I had to re-fi my house to pay em off.. And finally I saw a doctor who was actually trying ,A nephrologist, that spelling may be way off but basically a kdney doctor, and he confirmed Kidney Disease,,

WHile this whole time I was asking the other doctors to check my kidneys ( I just had a feeling) and they always said, "nah you are too young,, its probabaly a stone" Well it wasnt and I wasted a ton of money to the point I couldnt keep spending money for nothing,., SO I went to the hollistic, and nO it isnt the end-all, but it has taken almost all my symptoms away and I feel like I am 21 again,, Whether its just the healthy lifestyle I have changed to, or my body HAS actually healed, which I believe can..

WOW hows that for completely off topic!!! Sorry,, as I said I wont talk about it much anyway...

OK guys,
now we're getting a bit closer to the facts.
The way I look at it :
an electric guitar signal has to run through several amplification stages anyway.
The only difference between "active" and "passive" is the position of the first amplification stage in the signal chain.
active PU - before the guitar's tone controls
passive PU, active booster with tone controls (e.g. EC Strat) - before the guitar cable
and, to show the "purists" how irrelevant this discussion is, some examples of players known for great tone in their genres (if you like their music is a different story):
Rory Gallagher, Brian May, Ritchie Blackmore (there are 100s more)have never been seen without a (treble) booster after the cable, before the rest of the chain.
Not unlike an active circuit in a guitar actually.
It's all about impedance matching.
Ever noticed how a longer cable can change your sound, or wiring the PUs directly to the output jack without any other circuitry ?
So in a nutshell, to me it's nonsense to say "active PUs sound like crap" - you may like the sound of a certain PU or you don't - but there is no way to generalise.
Cheers, susiwong

I agree...but might I add that active pickups send a slightly hotter signal that tickles a few 12ax7's nads quite nicely...;)

btw I once put one of those tiny little electro harmonix boxes that plugged direct ino the amp (the real small one) in a 72 tele custom...that was my first expiriment with active electronics...unless you have a very strong stomach you really do not want to know how well "custom" applied to a guitar that in good condition would be worth quite a bit :hihi:

Killvehicle: I had it backwards-- I was thinking of the Livewires, which as you correctly point out is Duncan rather than DiMarzio. So, swap out the DiMarzio I mentioned for the Bartolini and that still leaves me at 3. ;)

It's worth reiterating that actives like EMG aren't just a passive with a booster, but a different coil approach as well. Bartolinis take a traditional approach to the coil. That said, the overall premise is still correct, which is that an onboard 'boost' is different from a boost pedal only in its placement on the signal chain.
