Just out of interest, why do you find this a real problem?

So long as you turn the quantisation grid off you can draw curves with the pencil tool. Also of course you can use a MIDI controller. I don't quite understand why specific preset curves are a big deal?
That and Dual Core support.
Looking forward to that. In Sonar the multicore support makes a massive difference to performance.

Create "Group" from track selection
A nice mixing feature would be to select several tracks then right click and select group. Then the tracks would all send their output to a new audio track called "Group 1". The tracks would all get moved next to each other and and the "group" could be expanded or collapsed to show/hide the group's children tracks. Group tracks could have their own scenes that play all the clips in the group's row.
This is bascially an encapsulation idea for all you OO heads out there. It's a bit like a folder track for all you conventional types. Actaully the ability to click-shrink/click-expand any track in the session view would help too.
That sounds like an awesome way to do this - very Ableton. :D
Have you suggested it on the official FR forum?

Cause that means you actually have to do stuff yourself. There should be a preset for everything in life :D

Curve tools like logics or podiums (I think) would be nice - just that little ease of use factor.

headquest wrote:Oh, and another FR: most of the audio effects were designed to be low-CPU and used "on-the-fly". Now that Live has developed into a DAW-type programme it would be good to see some better quality Mixing/Mastering type effects - Hard Limiter, Multiband, COnvolution, EQ7, etc...
There are enough good such effects available that I would rather Ableton focus on the core application.

Though this started as a rumours thread, it has turned into a wishlist, so I would like to see device groups be able to include any 3rd party device

yes I agree, saving entire device chains with plugins would be nice.

Hoping it's a top priority too

though I would not sing the blues if the simpler got a little less simple

Things I'd like to see are:

VST and VSTi when Live is rewire slave
Folder tracks
Clip copy with auto-increment clip range markers
Dual monitor support

FOLDER TRACKS! YES! (sorry for yelling, but it's such a great thing with large projects)

they really need to make it possible to have a multi view format, if this is not done i can see a lot of people moving away from it on the production side, the workflow is awful.

It's not a problem but just more of a convenience to use a predefined curve tool. I'm particularly anal about drawing automation curves, and use quite a bit of them, so any simplification would be quite helpful. Most other DAWs seem to already employ this feature so I don't think it's that odd of a feature to ask for.

I agree. Besides, curves are more natural than straight lines.

I dont think so.....as for people turning away, Ive never seen a music application so prolific in the public eye......I see it on TV and hear references to it on the radio and in print all the time, more than any other music creation app, its quite shocking how theyve taken over the market....if they dont like the workflow why buy it in the first place, are they just sheep ?

My big wishes for Live:

1. Fix the problem with rewire latency compensation.

2. Fix the bug of tempo changes affecting playback of clips.

3. A command to mute clips in arrange window without muting the whole track. Like Cubase.

4. Bezier style curves in automation.

5. midi CC automation in arrange window and not just in clip view.

6. Loop audio clip without warp.

7. Freeze only produces a wav that covers the actual clip that is frozen [and its tail]. As opposed to converting the whole track to one large wav for the length of the whole song.

8. Automate aux and track volume on a frozen track.

9. Remove the 'return to zero' action on Simpler's ADSR envelopes. ie. Make it behave like hardware ADSRs.

10. Support of midi FX VST plugs.

But even if it never progressed any further than what we have now, I would be happy. I have never been so satisfied with a computer program for making music. The set up I have now, so much smaller than it was five years ago, is near to perfect as I could imagine.

I got a print manual ?!

give those that know what they want what they want. make 2 versions.

one for those who want something closer to a professional sequencer for studio use, at the cost of more CPU.

one for those like me who are still on live 4 lite because it is simpler, at the cost of less new features. i dont want track folders, i dont want a freeze feature, i dont want rewire support, i dont want separate automation channels, i dont want video support, and i dont want this retrograde to come at the cost of more CPU and memory when the existing live 4 version does the trick perfectly.

i would even be happy with a max of 8 audio or midi tracks and 2 sends. i rarely ever need more than 6 tracks (4 audio - 2 midi).

they could easily treat live 4 like abandonware, give minimal support, charge 99$, and they would make money from the people like me who will soon be 2 whole versions behind because we have no interest in the new features.

this would make such a difference.
like the difference between pro tools LE and pro tools TDM.

now what i hope is there being a large enough group of "people like me" that can make this a viable option for monolake and his team.
