Sort of related to this, I read Microsoft is planning something code named Monaco which is intended as a direct competitor to GarageBand. As usual for MS its apparantly "very similar" their competitors. Not clear as to whether will be bundled with Vista or purchased separately. Just thought I'd mention it...

No VST, that stupid (do not know if Garageband has VST or AU). Does Kinetic 2 has VST and ReWire? (now that Rebirth is free, cheap apps better support ReWire...)
And M$ version of Garageband will probably be uglyer and less stable and userfriendly
