I use EXSC for converting sample sets from one format to another, eg, wusik-to-kontakt ... 2 clicks and, duh, my new samples work.

But there are also a boatload of additional facilities in exsc I don't understand, and with each version wlod seems to be adding more and more.

What are these numerous extra faciliters about? Why should I want them? What sort of product is wlod trying to deliver that he keeps adding lots of strange functions?

Most of all, I'd like to know if I'm missing something I should be paying attention to.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? :)

keep in mind that the product is targeted at two very different user groups:
(1) Musicians who need a simple and reliable facility to change from one format to another
(2) Sounddesigners and content creators who want to have the full set of bells and whistles to control every aspect of the translation result.
I think that Wlodzimierz manages remarkably well to keep the balance between the two sometimes conflicting needs and requirements of the two groups. I for my part am very happy with the added features (some have even been added on my request)

I'd say as long as the basic process is easy to do and the outcome is fine you don't need to care too much about the extra features.
You should however let him know if You find the user interface is getting too cluttered up and complicated for an easy access to the most needed program features.
in that case the expert mode would need to be put more out of the way and sight of the average user. But as I said, I think he does very well in keeping the balance.

Actually, EXSC is aimed at (1) and somewhere in between (1) and (2), because it does not let you adjust the zone boundaries (zones are mappings between keys & velocities to samples).

What it does allow you to do is tweak the parameters, and many players feel that even with very good pro sample sets, adjustments need to be made to make it sound and feel the way they want it.

It also has a superb loop editor, which allows you to take an unlooped sample set and create a looped one, saving heaps of memory at the cost of realism. This is good for live use, allowing more instruments to fit in memory at once.

I think editing zones will be in v3.2 (don't know when though)
* Version 3.2: Full featured MAPPING EDITOR with zone, root, crossfade editor.

You should certainly try out the demo.

That's a very good thing. It's the main thing it's been missing. Also, someone said it has an automap feature but I don't know anything about how it works.

...does anyone know if you can save different templates for the VST converter - I don't think so, but I haven't used it that much. Also, is it possible to save Kontakt instruments as monolith files?

Don't think it is unfortunately, I was kinda hoping it would be able to :(

Post

...yeah, perhaps it will be added someday - I was trying to convert some ST instruments (...if I have to stick with that :( , then I'd rather use them in a better sampler  ...), but there all named like sample.48, sample.60 and so on...

Why would you want to save monoliths? I hate those with a passion.

to keep all the samples and the instrument safely in one file, of course!

I know. But I hate that nonetheless because it doesn't allow for further sample tweaking.
I'm not having the slightest problem with keeping my samplesets in a "one file, one folder" kind of manner.
