Got a little time to play with this plugin tonight. The volume-parity feature is brilliant. The limited parametric is great . . . I actually don't think I'll be moving the frequencies around much. I appreciate that the Q changes depending on how big the cut or boost is -- that's smart. Actually, thinking about it, it's the easiest EQ I've ever used. The fact that it's not infinitely tweekable doesn't bother me . . . can be a bit of an asset.

Initial impression is that the eq is more phase-linear than vintage, if that makes sense. No obvious anomolies or heavy coloration.

Fairly appreciable cpu hit, but not out of control by any means. I think it'll be perfect for something like a guitar buss or a drum buss, where you want a pretty unobtrusive, easy eq. Not a ton of 'sweetening,' but then that's often a good thing. The fact that you won't have to move your faders after inserting it is just great.

This is my 20-minute review, so please, take an extra grain of salt with it . . .
Grist for the glamour mill.

Sorry to dig this out again, but I still kinda wait for an answer to the bugreports and when we can "roughly" expect C++ ported versions.

This is what kept me off from purchasing any other plugins (even with the 40% registered user discount) to be honest. Please, don't forget us Wavelab users.

Hi Compyfox,

We will be starting to release native VST versions of our plugins starting mid-July early August (This corresponds to reviews in Raveline and Sound on Sound magazines) and they will be a free upgrade to all our current customers and new customers until then.

We have certainly not forgotten about Wavelab users, Wavelap is a high-priority host for us and we will officially support this as soon as we can. Thanks!

Er... why charge for a version change? I think you "will" discart the SE engines after Native versions are released? Unless you keep on pushing out "2 versions": SE and Native VST. If so... I don't see a use in it. Twice the trouble, twice the support needed, twice as much errors possible.

Not to threat you, but offering "professional audio plugins" usually mean that they won't be used in seqencers only, but also mastering and sounddesign tools. Wavelab should have been high on the list from the start.

I guess not this time. I'm using Spectralive 2 since it was released, and I still have troubles fully using it in Wavelab and in SX3(!). I shouldn't be complaining as I was one of those who participated in the group buy. But since I'm using it, I found a couple of bugs (one of the major ones even right after firing it up the first time), I contacted the Crysonic crew, but all I heard so far was "we're looking into it", "Native VST version comes soon" or simply nothing.

This is what kept me from buying Cry'Q and Spectra'Q. With my limited budget, I can't throw out money on material where I can't use it's full potential due to bugs or incompatibility.

Don't get me wrong, nothing against Crysonic, I just like to use a reliable product, that's all.

Umm...when did they say they were charging for the version change?

It sounds like it from the written text. Lemme quote:

That sounds to me that future "switching" from SE will either cost and there will be two versions. Native and SE. Or Crysonic get'S completely rid of the SE engine after mid-July and didn't hit the spot with what they wanted to say and should definitely clear that up.

hehehehe. No man...that's stoopid. :P They're scrapping SE versions altogether. They're saying that, when they make the switch to Native versions...SE versions will be trashed...all customers who purchased a plugin, before they completely scrap SE, will recieve the native updates for free..that means they aren't charging for the C++ versions if you bought any of the SE versions in the past...Now, once native versions are available, all future Crysonic plugins will be native versions, and all future customers will have to purchase native versions, since there will no longer be SE versions. They're not gonna have 2 versions available.

Ok, maybe that's a bit convoluted. Here's the summary:

No more SE versions....ONLY Native.

If you are, or become, a crysonic customer before they make the switch (meaning you get an SE version shipped to you) then they will provide you with a C++ version for free, when available.

AFTER the switch...anyone who purcahses their products (meaning new customers...and old customers buying new products) will recieve C++ versions, since there will no longer be SE versions made. Get it?

peace

Frank

Your words in gods ears. When why didn't say it Crysonic that simple? If the plugins are bugfree after the "switch" however, is another thing.
