I've started making templates for all my 3rd party (non NI) synths (at least the ones I feel would benefit from this) to enable them to take advantage of the features of Native Instrument's KORE. Basically this involves creating a default KORESound with all the most useful parameters for live playing mapped to KORE Buttons and Knobs which can then be used as a basis for creating additional Sounds and Combo presets just by loading up the template - changing or tweaking the preset in the instrument, if needed adding other instruments or effects to make a Combo, then resaving under a new name to your Personal KORE Sounds folder.

I'm going for usability when played in realtime so I'm not mapping every single automatable control which I feel would just lead to pages of obscure controls to navigate through, but rather I'm picking out a subset of features I find have the most immediate impact on sound tweaking in a live context. I'm also trying to ensure the KORE layout maps as ergonomically as possible to the synth's own workflow (i.e. how one aproaches it - which things you tend to reach for first when playing it etc).

I'm happy to share these with anyone who wants them - so far I have:

Camel Audio Ca5000

GrooveCube Exciton 2

Big Tick Rhino 2

and have nearly completed one for Sytrus 2.

Obviously I'm only making them for synths I own (which includes all the above plus, Tera, a few by COFX, Discovery, most DASH stuff, most by WhiteNoise, SonicSynth2, Zebra 2, WusikStation, and a few others - so at some point I'll be getting round to some of those too) so if anyone has any they would like to post and share too feel free to add them to this thread so they are all in one central place - at least till NI setup a user lib (and there's a mirror thread at the NI KORE forum too)

(of course if any devs want to send me NFR's of their synths to make KORESound templates for I'll see what I can do :))

There seems to be a bug in KORE (or maybe Sytrus) that means it won't recall the correct patch when I reload a Sound. I think I might have to put the Sytrus KORESound on hold till its fixed and work on something else (or just release the work in progress).

Both- A KORESound is a complete setup so as well as patches it also includes mappings of the hardware controller to the software interface. KORESounds can be MultiInstrument/Effect Combos as well as solo instruments sounds and also incorporate midi files but in this case I've mainly concentrated on making the Software interface controllable via the KORE hardware.

Excellent idea here!
Here's a .ksd for Minimonstah
minimonstah
done on a demo version, but should still work.

OK... I'll jump in.

While I'm waiting for my Tera 3 upgrade to get here :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: , I've been playing around with miniTERA (it's a freebie for all registered T3 users, discounted for Cube and Cantor users and 89 Euros for those who don't have any of the above- Christiane was nice enough to give me my miniTERA link before my T3 upgrade showed up 8) )

miniTERA

KORE will give you the x/ys and nothing else; I've added everything except for volume and pan (use the normal mixer page for that). This includes the 8D morph time, fx pages, the arp, tuning, pitchbend range, etc.

Have fun :)

perhaps because it was a demo version, it doesn't work now.

i'm a bit new to this so any tips on getting it off the ground all help!

@ amused

your kore setup is awesome. REally great ! When you do think you have tamed the Sytrus 2 monster ? And Sonic Synth 2 would be interesting too !!! But Sytrus 2 is a challenge right ?

Please let me know when you have a mapping for this one.

Would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice.

Happy new year and all the best to you all !

Sytrus didn't work properly with KORE till the last update and I haven't had time recently. There's a lot of parameters in Sytrus - do I select the most useful or have pages for them all? (would be a lot of pages). My idea really was to make "player" pages picking out the most useful parameters for use with KORE rather than just mapping every last thing but I'm not yet sure which to prioritise - I think a heirachical approach is better for sound design myself.
