Hi Guys :)

I'm lookin for that heavy percussive dirty organ sound of Jon Lord you know like on the track "Hush" or just about any track where he lets loose
I have the Dirtbag Vsti which sounds like it could do this but my keyboard skills are like -0.00%
Also my MicroKontrol would possibly be bashed to sh!t!
If you know where to find some free sf's or samples of this style I will be oh so very, very happy and gratefull!

Why don't you give John Lord a call. Or;

Hey John Lord of Deep Purple fame, could you please sample your organ for us here at KVR.

It should not be too hard for him, and he could earn a bit of extra cash out of it too. :D

Post

Download some Deep Purple midi files. Route it to the organ VST and sample that.

i dont mean samples from him, just that style which would be what? hard rock organ? i mean it's not like he is the only guy with a hammond in the world.

i wonder how much he would charge $500.00 an hour?

I think he used a lot of ring modulation and...probably fuzz...

On many tracks instead of a Leslie he routed the Organ thru a Marshall guitar amp.

Try out NubiLe and run it into both Spinner and the SimulAnalog JCM 900 parallely. Mix to taste.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

NubiLE has some great John Lord style patches ...

woah! thanx everyone :) I got me some Deep Purple MIDI's gonna have a squiz and see what's going on (hopefully the hammond solo parts are there) if i have any success i will let you know.
Just gonna have to figure out how to manipulate those MIDI's so i'm not just rippin a John Lord line.

Didnt think of the NuBile either doh!

thanx for all the help again guys.

now how do i move this thread to Production Techniques?

dont ask me, it just turned out that way! :D

I've never seen a ring modulator on any Hammond organ I've owned/played/seen ... neat idea, though...

Brief summary of the Jon Lord sound: Jon played a Hammond C3 (same sound as B3) but unlike other organists he used Marshalls instead of Leslies. On the song Hush the intro is in fact a Hammond through a ring modulator. Many peole think there is a second guitar part on Deep Purple songs, but in fact it is Hammond thru Marshall playing rhythm on songs like Smoke On The Water.

You can get very close to the exact sound (not the ring mod though) using Native Instruments B4II which includes a Marshall emulation.

The poor man's best solution would be Organized Trio VSTi and the Simulanalog JCM900 plug.

Of course, some actual playing is involved  Helps if you can voice root fifth octave power chords and riff on Pentatonic scales.
