***Update 18th July***

Its been a while since I last posted on this thread, but alot of you wanted a taste of the piano without such a wash of reverb. So here is another improvisation, played with what I feel is a more 'immersive' Piano Bank (which is still in beta phase) and minimal reverb.

Hope it gives you a better idea of the instrument itself.

Peter Mullins - Unfree

Hey peoples,

First up have a listen to this:
Reflekshun - Where Have All My Heart Strings Gone

This song was totally improvised using a Piano VSTi thats been in development and soon to be released. And I have to say that this piano played a great part inspiring me while improvising this piece, something that doesn't usually happen to me. (keep in mind the recording is of a fairly early beta version - lots of features and additional pianos have been added since).

It's in some ways totally different from all the other piano plugs I've been able to try in the past. To give some examples of the things I noticed while actually playing this gem -

The piano's sound is always alive/moving like a real piano and not dead/static - especially on held notes and chords.

The dynamic range is amazing - this is the first time I've started using my digital piano more than my real piano because I feel its less limiting. I always had urges to setup mic's on my piano to finally get an 100% genuine performance out of me and recorded. This VSTi actually stops that urge hehe.

CPU is low for a plug of this quality, the real star is the low RAM usage. Totally amazing how they managed to get the size of the pianos down so low (the developers mentioned some kind of hybrid technology that uses advanced modelling techniques). The Beta used for the above song was only taking around 65 MB of space on my harddrive!!!

The VSTi cuts through a mix like no other and i mean it. If you know my music its overloaded with layers, but fitting this piano in there is no trouble at all - LOTS of time and crying into my pillow saved.

All that said - I'd be interested to hear what you guys thought about this plugin. I assure you this is something for producer/pianists to look forward to. This thing is alot of fun to play. I'm looking forward to the day you guys can try it for yourselves!

This is beautiful. Lots of emotion coming through in that piece, dynamics are great. What can I say -- I'm blown away by the sound, and the playing is superb, too!

Nice piece, sounds like Vangelis, you should add some pads!!

Can't wait to see that piano, looks very promising, sounds great.

Is that reverb or is that how the plug sounds? I can see what you mean by cutting through a mix. Well I can imagine anyway.

Good grief that sounds good. Just startling.

I'm blown away.

rpc9943 - The plug is Commercial, but I know they are planning to release a trial of some kind.

Funkadil - Yes that is a reverb, normally I would not go so heavy, but this piece is ambient. I found that the VSTi sounded fantastic if not better (clearer) with less overpowering reverb.

Sounds very dynamic!! The dynamics are very realistic, I'm surprised. You managed to capture how pianos brighten when played loudly, and when played softly they are warmer, but still very full sounding. A lot of other piano synths sound too "low-pass filter" with their dynamics.

Can't wait for this to be released!!

Wonderfull sound. Who is the developer of the piano?

This piece is so beautiful. I'm about to let it play on out as I prepare for sleep.

You're sure you weren't playing your hardware Steinway? Anyway you touched my heart with this beautiful and warm sounding musical piece.

Peace

Of course it cuts through a mix with the upper mids boosted the way they are.

Nice playing.

from the sound of the demo, it is indeed expressive/dynamic, but it seems to be lacking alot of mid range overall imo. Of course for the small footprint you mention, this isnt too bad :) I did enjoy the composition as well. (i agree, maybe a bit too much reverb)

It's great to hear this song is touching people - thanks for all the kind words.

Cryosis - Glad you enjoyed it - keep in mind that the piano I played was one of many presets. There are other presets that cover very different ground with their overall sound.

Dude! Wow. Not too shabby. Like the piano sound - what is the reverb on it though? It adds a lot to the quality
