I understand NDAs; I don't quite understand the point of posting and then not being able to discuss the instrument with us, except for the concept of viral marketing.

There creating one of those cool buzz's :ud: but instead of it being about how large a particular extremity is, its about a piano..

I hate these kind of threads. Posters with 1, 4, 8 posts to their name dragging me through a thread which, in the end, contains no information except overly effusive praise (amazing! amazing!) for a non existent plug. These kinds of spamming threads are getting to be more common around here.
I wish the original poster had the manners to be honest in the title- "new piano VSTi might be coming someday in the distant future, will sound OK, don't get rid of your soundfonts just yet, though."

I fully agree. Although it might be a good idea to throw away these piano soundfonts that are SO crappy most of the time and go here:

http://www.sampletank.com/Main.html?STFreeDwn

Sampletank's free HQ Piano is actually a good one, absolutely worth the downloads.

Post

I agree, also, alex :)
I do use the free Sampletank piano, and I like it. The only piano sf2s that I keep on my hard drive are the Splendid Grand 256MB and 72MB versions.
I tried the maestro (spelling?) piano soundfont that gets lots of praise, but, although I liked the overall tone, the decay was not natural, especially in the lower registers (the recordist just abruptly lifts his/her finger off the key). I don't understand why someone would go to the trouble of recording a piano at multiple velocities and then be sloppy with the details.

Very nice tune. I think I know what you are using -- the physical model piano that was in beta starting last year. He raised the bar for participation (reasonably so), and the last I heard about it before now was about the 3rd beta release.

It sounds like it has come a long way.

Fantastic playing and we can hear the inspiration you had in this superb improvisation! Great piano sound- never heard any piano sample quite like this!

However, I will have to reserve final judgement of the piano sound until I can hear more. I want to make sure I'm judging only the piano tone, not your highly skilled performance, which is a very evocative piece of music. The heavy concert hall stereo reverb is swirling the piano sound all around, and also makes a final judgement difficult.

I am amazed allready however at the quality of the decay, especially of the lower notes- the decay seems very long, almost as if the piano had 25' strings! I have heard some hybid piano sounds and they can do such type of things. So I'm guessing we are not hearing a 'pure' piano sample, but some kind of very interesting manipulation of a sample- extension effect, etc.

Just my guess. Thanks for sharing this wonderfull piece of music.

Are you at liberty to disclose whether or not this plug will be spoiled with obtrusive copy protection (C/R, PACE, or somesuch)?
reflekshun,

This is really my bottom line also. Please send the message back to the mystery folks that we need more developers that use simple serial number registration and trust their users.

ManyTone, Cakewalk, Voxengo, Kjaerhus are all companies I support for that reason.

Ahhh! I haven't been able to reply cos I've been sleeping and now I'm at work (working hard as you can see). Please dont take it as me ignoring all your posts

Sorry I cant give you more information - I was torn as to whether to post this here or music cafe. I'm just excited about this plugin and thought some of you would be interested to hear a bit about it (and I needed to vent). I'm just excited about this plugin and thought some of you would be interested to hear a bit about it.

You don't have to believe me or even read this post if you dont want, but being a forum I believe I have the right to voice my opinions and excitement!

All I can do is apologise for misleading a few of you with my post topic. I have been flamed for this before in music cafe (wrong genres). Still I'm sure you can get something out of the mp3 I uploaded :)

I like the piece and I like the sound of the piano, or vice-versa.

Hey, I can understand that completely. Think about it from my perspective for a moment: once this thread dies, how in the world will I ever know if this instrument sees the light of day? Why can't the company just say who they are, and maybe have a signup for email announcements? Lovely as the piece was, and the motivation behind posting it, what we end up with is a bit of a tease - great promise, and no way to know when or if it becomes a reality.

Tell you what: if you are on the beta team, why don't you write them a note saying that there are people interested, and they might want to think of a way to let the interested parties into the loop, information-wise.

Seems reasonable, no?

what's the ETA, reflekshun?
NDA's considered and understood- just give us what updates ya can when possible? Please?

Post

I will I will! :) As soon as I'm allowed, I'll recap everything and let you know. I'll make it obvious in the subject line that I'm talking about this plugin - thats probably the best way for you to keep tabs on it..

Well, I don't know if the developers did already made their mind about it, but I believe it will be priced UNDER what you would expect for such a great product, and UNDER what is currently the regular price for this kind of products in the market. And the features will possibly be more than expected, in terms of sound banks, too (but this is just a personal opinion, though).

I've been playing with release candidates, and so far, we never needed, nor had, any dongles, so, I am convinced that dongles are not an issue.

BTW - For those of you that want something to look for, it's being developed by 4Front Technologies.
