The script isn't sent to the guitar. Instead, you must have the guitar connected to a PC, where the script will translate the data from the EZ-guitar into the reconfigured MIDI information allowing you to do things like reversing the strings for left-hand.

So there's no way to make the EZEG always "lefty" without plug in a computer isnt? Maybe some rewiring?

Maybe with physicially rewiring it, but unfortunately there is no firmware or other on-board programming that can be updated.

You can load MIDI songs onto it, no lighted frets for those though. I just jammed along to Enter Sandman!

Yeah, you can put new tunes on it. If you want lighted frets, then the MIDI track has to have the system exclusive information in there too. Someone will have to write a utility to do that conversion, I guess.

I do not mean this message to be disparaging, just a communication of my experience. I hve had an EZ-EG since last December, and have had some very enjoyable experiences with it. I have also had many hours of frustration trying to make it do what I wanted from a MIDI guitar. This last week I purchased a Rolnd GR-20 guitar synth/converter with a GK3 pickup. It was a stretch for me to spend the money, but I had immediate gratification on my choice as soon as the pickup was postitioned and the converter turned on. The EZ-EG will be my silent travel guitar from now on(it's so cool to be sitting in the back seat of my band's travel van practicing without annoying everyone.) When it comes to MIDI guitar, though,the EZ has not given me near the success in 6 months that the Roland gave me in 5 minutes.
Again, this post is not to discourage people's exploration. I am going to be paying off the Roland set-up for a while, but I did a performance with it three days after getting it delivered, and the experience was much smoother than trying to use the EZ as a performance instrument.
Just a thought for those of you who are considering investing your time into this piece of equipment..

Hey, use what's best for you!

In your case, I'd really be worried about the EZ in a gigging scenario: it just doesn't seem sturdy enough. And you also have to haul a PC around if you want to use the scripts, and to me the scripts are the thing that makes these beasties shine.

I see the EZ's as more of a "button-grid" instrument that does things neither a keyboard and guitar could do. Perfect for my purposes.

As with any instrument, hopefully people get it from a vendor that allows returns: it's nice to be sure you can opt out if you don't like it after trying it out.

For guitar players, go for a MIDI pickup like the roland.
For synth players with a bit of guitar background, this is a dream come true!

IMHO there's no point in comparing the EZ's to ANY pitch2midi
scheme....apples and oranges. I've tried every guitar synth
ever made...granted I'd rather have a Z-Tar, but I find
hex converter schemes to be terribly frustrating. The EZ
is its own animal and requires its own technique. With
Roland type systems I find I can't play my guitars as
guitars any more and that frustrates the hell out of me.

I am happy and thankful for the existing hta solutions. On the other hand: when I think about a live use I find them very intricate and almost impossible to apply. Regarding this state the EZ is a nice tool for recording/developing but there is missing something very important. Maybe it it is a kind of prototype for a future instrument, a lot of guitar accoustomed musicians (myself included) would be happy about. Or somebody develops a more integrated solution that is less complex to set up and use.

wish I could just plug the damn thing straight into a
hardware synth...need some way to merge the midi out.
Yamaha is REALLY missing the boat on this one. If they'd
just make a pro version...a little sturdier with a few
more features it would be well worth a couple hundred
more $.

they won't build such a thing by now I guess, because thy want to sell their traditional guitar2midi equipment.

Maybe someone will code a vst based solution for the EZ. I am shure that it would be possible to construct a box with an emedded operating system that could solve the problems. But since I am not familiar with these things I cannot to estimate the amount of work to create something of this kind. The possibility exist and the huge amount of posts in this thread shows that there is a need and a possible market for such an innovative midi controler. I also know that there are companies specialized to produce unusual midi controlers. Perhaps...

Hold up.. What is stopping you from connecting the midi out of the ezeg to the midi in of your synth? Doesn't that work? I haven't tried with mine here, but I would assume because it's MIDI it would work..?

I'm using an EZ-AG w/VSTHOST (freeware vst host), and there's only a small latency delay. Just running it straight into the computer by MIDI, no MIDIX program or MIDIOX/YOKE. My GK-3A isn't much better.
