I'm not sure Live supports plugins sending midi to other plugins. Your best option is to buy energy XT - this gives you a modular patch bay just like in tracktion. Energy XT loads as a VST and makes routing MIDI and audio a breeze. The perfect companion to LiveSlice if you want to take full advantage of the multi outs and the midi.

it does work with live (at least with 5.2 which is my version), you only have to use effects that can natively receive midi-cc (or have a midi-learn function).
here's a screenshot of liveslice driving the cutoff (cc50) of betabugs' crayon filter.

you just have to activate the midi-output in liveslice by setting the output of midi1 and/or midi2 to something else than "--" and set the correct cc, then any plugin in the insert chain will receive liveslice's midi-output.
if you want to use a plugin with no native midi-cc implemented, then use energyXT to wrap it in as eXT can convert cc to vst-parameter automation.

thanks R.A.W. I'll add this to the manual. Yeah, I know it's an old post but it deserves a little bump

R.A.W. : you have been beta testing Live 6 right? Have they added midi CC mapping yet? That would be good for Live users who don't want to use energy XT as a patch bay.

btw. speelman - what do you mean by "nothing is clear" - this thread has two very clear descriptions on how to send midi to external effects in Ableton live: if your effects has midi learn / midi mapping - it works out of the box as R.A.W. explains - if not, use a patcher plugin like energy xt.

i actually bought the live6 full version lately.. direct CC mapping from the instrument to the following effects still isn't possible if they don't support native CCs or midi learn.ohm wrote:R.A.W. : you have been beta testing Live 6 right? Have they added midi CC mapping yet?
