Using VSTs as master output in windows, possible?

I'd like to know if there's a VST host that processes all audio output on the computer.
I like to use Steinberg's Externalizer for music/movies but it's a pain in the ass trying to get them to work selectively for every media player.
Thanks.

2 soundcards - 1 for windows, the other using your host of choice(for 1 trick pony something like cantabile would work great and works both with directsound and asio)... connect output of windows soundcard to mixer which feeds 2nd card from mains out, then setup cantabile with 2nd card using it's input as input, load your vst, and all set.
I do this myself (not for vst virtualizer effect) for other reasons; sblive value -> omni i/o -> delta 66, then i can record any output of pc regardless of card used. my delta would in theory let me connect the windows output back into a hardware input with it's mixing panel/software but i like sblive for games.

It doesn't seem to support VSTs in itself. Loading this plus a VST host, then routing this into the VST host then out seems unnecessarily resource consuming and messy. Another problem is it requires the source program to allow for choosing output device, certain programs and particularly games don't give that option.acousmod wrote:Virtual Audio Cable do it internally.
Cheap but not free.

Closest I found seems to be the FX processor, but as far as I could find this requires physical input into the card. Does not process input from applications.I know SpinAudio has a plugin host that can work for your soundcard and host VST's. There's others as well
