Oh I know. But I'm not an expert synth programmer by any means, and for me there's a huuuge difference between programing basic, bland pads, which is easy; and programming rich and evolving pads, which is pretty much outta my league. Basically, for pads I want a quick and easy fix.Distorted_Mastermind wrote:Not to get too DIY here, but pads are one of the easiest sounds to create by sampling. Bump up the attack, decay, and release and maybe shorten the sustain, if needed add delay. Mess around with various samples, adsr settings, and effects and it will lead to an unlimited number of unique pads.

Well I guess it would be worth at least trying to come up with a sort of list of sounds you can sustain for people interested in making their own (aside from a synth sound). On the top of my head I know that organs, flutes, wind, wine glasses, sustained guitar chords(slide especially?) string/orchestras all washed in reverb are 'pad-able'. Those sounds I listed would make for a lighter pad of course.Arglebargle wrote:Oh I know. another vote goes to http://www.prodyon.de/spacehawk.htm -> SPACEHAWK
it is a really good library for pads, and cheap too.
You can dl some demo sounds in sf2 format.
You should give it a try.

(4 layers of Surge)
then you can take one of those programs that exports synths in wave form like chainer, load them into a good sampler like shortcircuit, loop-crossfade them, and there you go. works like a charm.

Step by step:
- Get a bunch of pad producing free VSTis (Crystal, FreeAlpha, Cygnus, CheezeMachine, Synth1, whatever... you'll find them).
- Get SFZ.
- Get Chainer (the demo).
- Layer them VSTis in Chainer to taste. Add VST FX to taste.
- Go to the export menu.
- Set up a long enough "hold" time.
- Export as SF2.
- Load exported SF2 in SFZ.
Should result in a huge library without much effort.
If you don't believe, well, then don't.

I don't believe you for a second, this idea SUCKZ! Switch "get a buncha pad producing free VSTis" and change it to "Get a good non-free synth". Then switch out "Get Chainer" to "Buy Chainer" and get rid of that entire SF2 and SFZ thing. Switch that to "Export as wave, buy ShortCircuit, import wave"Sascha Franck wrote:Step by step:

By the way, is the guy who made the VSTi-dumper still around
. Anyway, I used his beta for such tasks, but as he didn't develop it further (or didn't let us know) Chainer (not updated since the early 17th century?) is better, in fact, is great.
