I can host the samples. I want us to have uncompressed high quality ORIGINAL hits. No taking hits from any famous analog machine like TR909 or 808 or Yamaha or any of that crap. (ooh, did I just call the drum machines crap? :hihi:) Lets have a library full of completely original hits. You can submit any hits that you PERSONALLY created.

Guidlines:
  • If the recording is mono, convert the file to mono! Any use of things like chorus, ping-pong delay, stereo phaser, reverb especially, leave it stereo.
  • 16 or 32 bit, 44100hz
  • Normalize to 0 or -3db
  • You must cut all the silence off. Leaving a tiny bit of silence at the end is ok, but is NOT ok at the beginning.
  • If you hear a click at the end of the sample, fade it out! Matter of fact, you should fade every sample a tiny bit at least
  • Samples should be without reverb unless it's needed for fx or misc or unavoidable.
THE NAMING SYSTEM:
name_hitname_number
note: use only up to 5 characters for your name.
example: archi_noise_01 or archi_kick_03

Tips:
  1. Use ChannelGrabber and don't use Seek or Apply buttons. Simply raise the volume of your snyth so that it never goes beyond yellow.
  2. Let ChannelGrabber autoname your recordings. Twiddle around in your synth and when you hear something good, hit record on ChannelGrabber, play your synth, hit stop on ChannelGrabber.
  3. If you don't like what you recorded, do not go looking for the file. That's a waste of time. Just hit record again.
  4. Once you got a bunch of random recordings, it's time to process them. First delete the recordings with silence (times when you pressed record and stop without playing your synth). Then delete all the mistake recordings.
  5. Open your wave editor. Import as 16-bit or 32-bit mono 44100hz every file you recorded.
  6. Delete beginning and ending silence.
  7. Fade your sample out <-- Very important, even if it's a very quick fade and you can't hear the difference.
  8. Normalize
  9. Export
  10. Name the files
  11. Submit them to me.
The reason for the dry sample is so after the processing is done and the sample is submitted, we can apply reverb to each sample, resample it, and then have a wet and dry version. Reverb in a sample *really* helps the tweakability of it. But sometimes you don't want reverb.

Eventually after we get a lot of hits I want to organize them into a library. Right now I'm just using generic names so later on we can rename the samples and organize them. Note: If you submit a sample to me and it doesn't meet the guidline, I will process the sample myself. (If there's a click at the end, or if there's silence in the beginning, etc.)

This percussion will obviously be geared toward the general electronic music genres because we are not submitting realistic or multisampled recordings. Also, most of the percussion that will be submitted is probably going to require some tweaking to get the sound you want, and that's a GOOD thing.

Here's my little demo using surge and the percussion I uploaded.

Ok, I'm changing the "no reverb rule" because I encountered a situation where the reverb CREATED the sample. So, feel free to add reverb *only* if you need it. For example, your snare doesn't need reverb, but a one-shot fx could use reveb, or even something that would go in misc.

IS there anything else anyone wants changed? Are my rules preventing replys?

Post

What a great idea.
Sadly I do not own a drum.
Let me know when you need "hits" of sounds that have never been heard by human ears.

Damn, what a great idea.
I saw llama golf caddies on the internet today but this is much more useful.

Post

If you own a synth you can make drum sounds. I'm using surge. I got a few more coming soon. I'm processing them now.

sample this!----> :bang:

Arrite I updated everything. Check out the naming system.

Post

Ok, I updated the master with a few more percussion. This is the last time I will upload JUST the master zip. Next file submissions I'll update the master list and have a download link to just the new percussion so you don't have to download the whole thing again.

So is anyone going to participate? Please respond now, I'm going to take down the samples if this project goes dead.

I'm having some technical argument with my seq at the moment.

Seems odd to me that no one's caught onto this thus far though.

Post

eh? you need a sequencer for a few 1/10 of a second sounds? heh, ok.

but of course, samples can be even 20 seconds long if you want.

No, I've been fighting my freaking system trying to get it to stop turning off when I render a track.
It's taken up the better part of 2 days now.

Although, come to think of it, I don't have a way of making a sound without my seq which is FL.

Post

well you could always use channel grabber and you don't have to render anything. then edit the sound in audacity. This is what I'm doing.

Post

Good idea Archi!
I've got some various percussion instruments I can sample as well as some whistles and other random stuff. I'll try to record something soon and post it to you. :)
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Arrite. Does anyone here have the best noise removal software? It would be cool if someone could use their thousand-dollar wave editor to remove noise, unless audacity can remove noise just as good?

Remember to record silence (noise) so the noise removal can analyse it.

Oh yeah, and when you record samples, record them a few times so we can have alternative samples (almost like multisampling but not). You'll notice that some of my synth perc sound similar. They act as alternative samples. For example the misc Ping waves are different in pitch.

I tell you man, there's nothing better then a giant library of random percussion when creating electronic music.

Post

Your first guideline has a typo. Do you want mono or stereo samples?

This is a good idea. I like random samples. Ill make some. I have a bunch of kung fu sound effects I got from some DIY kungfu website. They are cool.
Do not lick the fablanky
