How do you "punch-in" with FL Studio?

How do you "punch-in" a take with FL Studio? Let's say I have a 10-minute track of blazing guitar solo, and 9 minutes into it I muff a few notes. I want to record a correction for just those few seconds. As far as I can tell, I have to record a second track from the beginning, wait quietly for those 9 minutes to pass by, then record my little bit. Instead, I'd like to be able to start recording the second track just a few seconds before the 9-minute mark and auto-place it into the playlist properly.

I know this has got to be possible, but I just can't find it. Help?

tbh i think that's something better done in an audio editor

I guess you can select in playlist the area starting from just few seconds before 9 minute mark and then record. Not sure tho.

I had a lot of problems of this ilk with FLStudio until I installed an update from Steinberg.

The update is called "Cubase SX 3", and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to do music production that requires anything but the most rudimentary DAW features.

There is no real Punch in - function in FL!

But you can use the "Loop Recording" function
(you can define an area in the playlist which will be played over and over and when you record to this you can do a sort of overdubbing
(unfortunately there is 1ms or 2 silence before each new take.)

music has become meaningless...we just keep doing it

Maybe FLS7 will have this... :ud:

Yea basically you select and area "at the top of the playlist" then record from there..

Much as I love fruity I would strongly reccomend using a dedicated audio editor for this kind of stuff.

Thanks for the loop tip.

To The Chase & Tristan: it could be any additional part, not necessarily an edit to a track. I don't think an audio editor is the answer; maybe I just picked a bad example.

Actually I think that's a very good answer... for someone who's foolish enough to use FL to record audio... :P :hihi:

But seriously, as a fellow FL user, I would recommend using a more "punch-in" friendly program for your audio track needs and then just import those tracks into FL for mixing, manipulating, whatever... I myself use FL as a DXi in Sonar to play along with the other instrumentation as I lay down a guitar track *properly* instead of just using the lame workflow of recording audio directly in FL...

If I could Sonar without it crashing, it would be great for audio. I'm afraid of using it now(uninstall coming soon). I would try Tracktion before dropping a load on Sonar...

What version of Sonar is crashy?? Let me know!!

Yagushi, I don't know what's not to like about recording in Frooty; for one-man studio stuff I do it seems to work fine; name your file and click to record. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing?
