You probably know the PS22 Stereo Maker from Waves.

you could also try our 'stereoizer' (it runs as a freeware version after the demo period has expired if you don't need the extra functions)

I'm in the same boat. I covet PS22, but it's only TDM, and it's only MAC.

It appears all of the suggests here, apart from NuGen, are just what DRDRDR said he DIDN'T want--i.e. processors that use short panned delays to create the pseudostereo effect. I will reiterate his issue that said processors cause phase problems, especially when summed to mono (and when you are pitching for jingle/TV work it is a common problem).

The NuGen I found to be too subtle to really be helpful, unless I used the phase shifting -same problem inducing- linear width control.

Any other suggestions, guys?

PSP StereoPack, definitely. http://www.pspaudioware.com/

The pack has all the tools you need for manipulating stereo image. The only thing that could be improved is the user interface of the stereo controller plugin, which Waves has done a little better (easier to understand). The PSP tools are fully mono compatible, and support both mono->stereo and stereo->stereo operation.

Btw, if you want an incredibly versatile M/S processor, try Voxengo Soniformer. With Soniformer you can have different dynamics processing for each of the 32 frequency bands, and in M/S mode. You can for instance "mono-ize" bass frequencies, stereo-enhance middle frequencies and expand highs. Or just about anything. Your imagination and ability to grasp such a beast of a tool are more likely to be the limiting factor.

Hmmm. The documentation/website for PSP doesn't indicate mono compatability, or anything that might hint that it is different from a typical delay based stereoizer.

I guess I'll download a demo or something...

Sorry, my bad. Indeed, the StereoController is said to be always mono compatible ("does not break tonal balance and mono compatibility" [actually there's a typo "compability"]) but the StereoEnhancer has "visualization of mono compatibility".

Anyway, download the demo and try.

IIRC Wide Boy (and Wider Boy) works on another principle and should sound OK even when summed to mono...

FL Studio's EQUO can do just that (and its in the JuicePack, too). Theres even a similar preset, called "stereo enhance" i believe.

Which stereo-from-mono tool for PC ?
