Okay, I just picked up Sound Forge Audio Studio and, for the most part it's okay. There is a super irritating thing about it, though, that I can't figure out how to fix; it adds space to after the end of any audio file. You load the file, the wave opens and at the right side of the wave window after the end of the file is about 30-60 seconds of flat line that holds no audio info, it's just there taking up space. I can't resize to get rid of it and I can't delete it because it doesn't let me highlight it.

Here's what I mean. Scroll this image to the end of the file.

It's the grey area. D'you know how to just get the file to fill the editing window without the extra space?

THANKS!

I personaly liket-hat feature, way less annoying than in wavelab wherE it put like 10-20 minuteS of non-data on max zoom out

Marybelle:

The pro version of SoundForge does this as well. The solution is to decrease the zoom ratio. There appears to be a dropdown menu to the right of where it says "Normal Zoom Ratio." If you select a number from that dropdown which is smaller than the one in your screen shot (or select the box by left-clicking on it with your mouse pointer and then type in the value, if possible) the audio file should expand, moving the gray area off the screen to the right. But if you move the curser to the extreme right side of the wave file, you will see that the gray space will still be there. There is really no way to get rid of it, you can just move it to the right with the scroll bar. This grey area has no effect upon the function or sound of the program. You would be better off to learn to just ignore it. It is just vacant space which hurts nothing.

Yeah, I did that. It just makes the file too small or too big. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I am aware of that. I just think it's counter productive to be working on a file that's not correctly represented visually.

Hello again, Marybelle

Sorry to hear of your difficulty. I do sympathize with your plight. I understand how small details can sometimes be quite frustrating. Even in the pro version of Sound Forge it is seldom possible to get the file to fit the window exactly. I just scroll to the part of the file that I am most concerned with and then zoom in on that part. Then, as I'm quite sure you already know, you can use the scroll bar at the bottom of the window to navigate around the file. I do hope that this problem doesn't sour you on Forge. It really is a straight forward, no nonesense program that does what it does extremely well. Like most programs, It just takes a little getting used to. You might try posting on the Sound Forge forum at Sony Media Software. Perhaps someone over there can help you out. Here is the main forum link: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/default.asp Just click on Sound Forge Product Family, and it will take you right to the Sound Forge forum. Good Luck!

Baxter, thanks for the help. This is a pretty worthless bit of software. It can't even run a simple plug like the Dave Ross DJEQ. Just sits there and beeps when you try to render. I give. Time to look for something better . . .

Sound Forge limits zoom ratios to powers of two (1:1 = 1 cell per pixel, 256:1 = 256 cells per pixel, 1:8 = 1 cell per 8 pixels, etc.). So the amount of gray area depends on the max zoom ratio, essentially, the next power of two above (length of file in cells : width of window in pixels).

It's arguable whether this is (better/worse, accurate/aggravating, logical/illogical) depending on who you ask. But that is the root of that issue.

FWIW, the DJEQ seems to work fine in the plug-in chainer in the full version of Forge 8.0 (not available in Audio Studio), but I see the same peculiar problem when attempting to apply the plug-in modally. It appears to be caused by DJEQ not providing any presets (pVstPlugIn->numPresets == 0). I will submit a bug report to SMS for this case.
