is the ambience part of the samples, or the processing?
I don't know, sounds 'good' for sure, but not spectacular...something a bit 'safe' about the cymbals/hihats for me, too inoffensive. Could be the mix.

There is no processing at all, just raw samples.. the ambience comes from seperate room mic samples.

ahh great, the free tchakpoum kit also uses ambient mics that can be blended with the close miced sounds. I like the approach alot. Looking forward to seeing what comes.IIRs wrote:There is no processing at all, just raw samples.. the ambience comes from seperate room mic samples.

Thankyou!
pw: I think possibly the "safeness" you percieve comes from the choice of ribbon mics for overheads (Beyer M160 / M130 pair). They sound very warm, but nervertheless have a crisp well defined top end that can be brought up with EQ if needed, though I didn't use any EQ at all in the clip. Condensors sometimes sound harsh and sibilant on cymbals to my ears..

Sounds good to my ears! And I knew you'd choose such a title, you could never hide your religious attitude well, if I remember right
.
No, good sounding drums.

Actually "Solomon" is the middle name of the drummer, Leon Neal.
He used to play in a band with me, but these days he's too busy faffing about as a succesful press photographer: http://www.leonneal.com/

Ok. What tempo would you like it rendered at? And how much are you going to pay me for it?

Rendering it at slow tempo means it's not only easier to cut since the hits are spread out, but there's a much bigger tempo range without it sounding cut up. So render it at half tempo. And do it for free.
