The FLStudio 6.1 beta looks to have great features!!!

again i agree about freeze - this needs to be done straight away

I think the workaround i have in mind now is using 1/4 for everything, that way every beat gets a number on the playlist -- at least this way it aligns to some sort of grid. But it wont help for all time signatures..matthewjumps wrote:again i agree about freeze - this needs to be done straight away

hitman, i'm not trying to pick a fight. that said...hitman8081 wrote:tony chopper! gol! imageline! freeze! please! i cant tame fl studio anymore as far as cpu is concerned! think about albino 3! z3ta! cpu! again please! and please give us new synths and good fx and dump the out of date synths!thanx you for giving us this update though.
freeze = render (I know it's a workflow deal, but c'mon, is it a huge problem -- if so i recommend using tapeit, or now the built in edison which can record anything .. put edison on your mains, hit record and then hit play.)
it already has great effects! are you serious that you don't think so?
and the out of date synths would be what? every generator in fl has a unique purpose IMO. there is room for improvement of course always but honestly it's pretty well rounded isn't it?
if you are running out of cpu, don't blame a non-freeze-capable powerhouse like fl, please..
c'mon

yes, you can. put edison after your effects. if you are using effects on the mains, then solo the channel needed and throw edison on the mains. then hit play and record, done. simple pimple.hitman8081 wrote:because you cant record fx into a wave. and its anoying as hell.

thats not the only reason a host needs freeze.
okay, lets say you render the track. great. It took a few steps to do.
but now, you want to remove the vsti from the project cause it is taking up RAM or in some instances cpu power.
so, you go to delete the instrument -- but hey, now you delete all the midis that went along with it... so you have to go along and save those.
but what if you want to edit later? you have to save the preset of the vst or vsti you were using and then bring it back later.
all of this and more could be accomplished with a proper freeze. Its not a thing about blaming FL cause i have a bad old computer. Its a common feature that, when implemented properly, like in samplitude, yeilds great results.

grymm u are a god - but i must disagree - we shouldnt have to waste our time rendering and disabling - there is no reason why freeze shouldnt be an automatic, one click process....
tho i agree about synths and effects - fls has some very nice effects, and the synths have their uses - and sytrus is gorgeous...
and hey .... VST, VSTi, DX, DXi!!!!!!!! For the price of FL plus some synths/effects that are really good, you couldnt buy Cubase SX on its own....and i have a huge collection of sweet synths/effects that are free ....
what more do ya want?

im a total FL fanboy, i love it -- dont get me wrong. Freeze isnt TOTALLY essential for me -- i can get around it, to an extent. It would be VERY nice however.
what is REALLY disheartening is that FL still doesnt properly support multiple time signatures in one song- or at least it doesnt update the playlist to reflect it....

I save two flps, one with rendered and that one without the pluggins, and one not rendered with the pluggins...when you render the tracks just hit ctrl n, after you delete the pluggins...if changes are needed open the first one and rerender through the mixer and overwrite the track....when you open the rendered version the changes will be already done...tbh I usually make about 6 flps for a song...Jason Brian Merrill wrote:thats not the only reason a host needs freeze.

sure, and i agree jason. freeze _is_ great and would be a nice thing to have, but i was trying to help him see that it's not that difficult to emulate freeze. after the edison trick, file | save as new version, do your edits, then you can undo too.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:thats not the only reason a host needs freeze.

if you need to edit it later, load the old one, make changes, re-render, repeat. i know it's not ideal, and it's a pain if you'd need to make changes based on something you did after your render and needed comparison sounds or something. you wouldn't need to save the preset of the vst/vsti though if you save the project as a new version each step. the flp are small, so there is no reason not to have several hundred if you needed.
some people don't know that freeze can be emulated. and hitman, i'm not implying anything with this statement.

I'm stunned you say that....dude no matter what I save mutiple projects in all my hosts and if I'm going to apply effects to a tracck I save the dry version....I really thought everyone did this....that's one of the benefits of digital over the old tape days.....if you want to try something and it doesn't work you're not screwed...and that disgusts you...Jason Brian Merrill wrote:thats an interesting workaround, but it disgusts meHink wrote:I save two flps, one with rendered and that one without the pluggins, and one not rendered with the pluggins...when you render the tracks just hit ctrl n, then delete the pluggins...if changes are needed open the first one and rerender through the mixer and overwrite the track....when you open the rendered version the changes will be already done...tbh I usually make about 6 flps for a song...Jason Brian Merrill wrote:thats not the only reason a host needs freeze.

i agree that freeze is definitely a great thing to have, it's just that it's also possible to emulate freeze and some people may not know this. honestly i didn't know about channel recorders until i stumbled onto tobybears and then went searching for more and found voxengos and then finally found and bought tapeit -- with edison this is of course pretty much not needed inside FL so ... but anyway, i'm for freeze.
honestly, i don't know why he would say it lacks in the effect or synth category. hitman; do you own the big producer xxl or what version do you own? because if you use a more basic version, yes it's lacking but once you upgrade it isn't lacking anymore. those older synths, the oldest of them being 3osc or the TS404, are great IMO. they are very decent and even if they aren't as extensive as say simsynth or sytrus, within FL they are great little generators. i would be seriously pissed if they removed those two.matthewjumps wrote:tho i agree about synths and effects - fls has some very nice effects, and the synths have their uses - and sytrus is gorgeous...

definitely it's very flexible, you can do as you say almost anything with it. i think we should figure out what version hitman is using because he may not have the full xxl producer version and in that case he is entitled to bitch a little i guess. the stuff that is save disabled in the cut down versions is quite annoying indeed, but that's why you upgrade over time slowly and build up.. shit it took me years to get to this level and i'm by no means rich.
hitman tell us what version you are using ok?

definitely i feel the same. the thing is though, how the hell is gol going to implement it? i mean think of the track-scope, ok, it's linear, it's pretty easy right? you have one instrument per track, so if you freeze, then you just worry about that track only or it's output or whatever. but in fl where everything can be much more flexible (yes you can work linearly and emulate track-scope composition by just using instruments with the piano roll and creating uber long patterns etc) it's got to be a mindfuck. consider that for instance one instrument used in say 8 patterns.. how do you handle that? do you freeze/mute the notes in the PR and the SS for every place that instrument is present? ok that's fine, but programatically it's got to be a nightmare. what about instruments with multiple outputs -- even more complicated.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:im a total FL fanboy, i love it -- dont get me wrong. to your knowledge has any 'pattern' based host implemented freeze effectively? i don't know of any. i do think that ext has a pattern mode (i think that's what that mode is when you click to open the top pane in a seq -- assume as much haven't tried it so not sure) and i know that ext supports freeze in a nice way.
but does orion have it? i dont know. honestly it's a programming feat of huge proportions. what happens if that instruments has effects applied to it in it's channel and what about sends? then the complexity increases even more so. shit, just imagine how psychic the function would have to be.
i mean i want it, but in the mean time for the duration of development if it's on the way or not, i can work without it for a few reasons; i've never run out of cpu but i'm not a pro-master-9000 like you guys are i do stuff as a hobby with fl, and also because i try to compose in such a way that doesn't kill my cpu. no super long releases on envelopes, no long reverb or delay tails, etc.
what happens when a instrument is muted in fl? does it reclaim the cpu or bypass it? i see an option in the vsti wrapper that says 'process idle outputs' so i'm assuming that fl's policy is one of no play, no drain.. however not all instruments will cooperate with this i'd bet.
what is the status of freeze anyway? has gol made any statements? has jmc?
