2 REQUESTS :
- I think that tempo-sync option could be sweet ;
- and alsop a midi learn to play with the beast using a controller woud be amazing !

Post

sink, what would sync to host? The, um, frequency intertia thingee? I don't get it. <-- I am not trying to be insulting, btw.

Midi learn - it's pretty invaluable to be able to control, live, the upper section of controls because some of them can freeze the audio to a degree, and the "gates" are best when used while reacting to the audio material being passed into the plugin in real time, if that makes any sense.

Tool tips! Perfect!

Shit, I don't care if you ever change anything, really. I already love it so, so much especially now that there's stereo link. Although the stereo link bizarrely doesn't stay memorized in host-saves (as opposed to .fxps).

Congratulations! If I weren't gearing up for a new band/project all I'd do is sit around and see what I could run into Lost Tech.

Well, i don't understand avery paramter use at now, but i hear many often some kind of LFO/modulation, that could be synced to get tempo-synced cycles of mangling.

DOn't worry, that's fine.

Well, i understand, not everything of course, it could crash everything, but some paramters seem to be here to be tweaked, and for those ones, it could be nice.

True, too !
(maybe tooltips, and a new skin ?)

Ok, granted, I've read the manual 10+ times since it's first release. I still don't understand it. I understand how it works but now how to just make a sound happen without a lot of thought.

I'm almost certain there's no modulation of lfos.
It only uses the audio input, but in many weird, weird ways.

Transvaal, perhaps you can explain this to your fans?
;)

only if the fan has about 3 phd's

great plug... about 60% incomprehensible to me but great all the same.

cheers,

steve.

On one side, yes, and agree too for tooltip onmouseover,
but on the other hand, i like the fact that i'm lost inside it, and that i tweak bu understand nothing ! :)

sinkmusic - A printer-friendly PDF version of the manual is a nice idea. I'll probably add one once the manual feels a little more complete. Built-in presets are planned for version 0.2.

Version 0.2 will not have MIDI features. However, judging by the description of the "MIDI learn" concept in this article, I'd say that it should be possible to get host applications to transmit the necessary information to external controllers even without MIDI support in the plug-in.

runagate - The forgotten link settings are a feature, sort of. Link settings aren't parameters and I'm not explicitly saving them anywhere in the code. Are you really able to load them from fxp files? If you WANT to save the link settings between sessions I'll check if there's a convenient way to implement that.

The processing basically works like this:

Step 1 - Analysis: Lost Technology's two input signals (left and right channel) are split into amplitude, frequency and waveform components. This is analogous to how RGB video systems split images into red, green and blue components; each component describes a distinct property of the original signal (loudness, redness, pitch, green-ness, etc.). We now have one pair of amplitude signals (left and right), one pair of frequency signals and one pair of waveform signals.

Step 2 - Component Modulation: The two signals in each signal pair are used as operands in basic mathematical operations, like addition and multiplication. Two operations are performed on each pair, one with the left signal as first operand and one with the right signal as first operand. Each operation produces one new signal. We now have three new signal pairs, one of each type (A, F and W).

Step 3 - Synthesis: The left signals in the signal pairs produced in Step 2 are combined to form a new audio signal. The right signals are combined to form another new audio signal. We now have a pair of new audio signals.

Step 4 - Audio Modulation: The new audio signals are combined using math operations just like the component signals were in Step 2. The operations produce a second pair of new audio signals, those signals are Lost Technology's output signals.

OKay.... so what I didn't realize is that there's a waveform analysis/component (brilliant!) and I have a hard time conceptualizing what exactly the maths are that go into all the modulations and re-synthesis but it sure sounds great!

With the various "lag" commands this becomes very complicated very fast. I love tweaking the input settings as part of the effect to be caused. I'm still just sinking my teeth into Lost Tech, really. It's potential is much greater that most fsu fx as it does remarkably different things to different types of audio.

The new version has a serious bug. When chaining all parameters it soon freezes really hard and I can't even move my mouse or press ctrl alt del. It happened 2 times in Live 5. Did no one else have this problem?

Post

I'm not sure what you mean by "chaining" all the parameters but it's not crashed on me yet.

Post

Sorry, I mean linked.

Post

Hmm, when they're stereo linked...
I haven't stereo-linked the Hz readout meters... perhaps that's what's causing it (because even with linked parameters on the plug that doesn't mean that the input is the same in the stereo field).

Then again I'm not using Live so I can't tell you anything beyond the fact that it doesn't happen in FL 6 or Usine.

At this stage, i have a photoshop file that can get jpeg or png, but as it is coded in C++, i hav no idea of what software is needed to "assign" my custom interface to the plugin : is it easy and risk-free ?
I'd be interested in seeing this though I have no knowledge with which to answer your question.

Muahahahaha! Lost Tech is just making me more and more happy the more familiar I am with it.

Here is the GUI i made for Lost Technology.

All the graphic part is done, but i don't know how to compile it in VST with the plugin.

I sent that to Lost Tech's creator, but he said that the existing GUI was fine to hist taste, and that he wouldn't have time to make it untill the end of August...

So I post it here if anybody likes it, and think that he has the skills to "put" it in the .DLL as an alternative GUI, i wil send him a .zipped folder with every needed elements.
I hope you like it.

hah, now that's my kind of GUI. nice and simple, allthough it might be a bit bright to really be more functional than the orignal. aah, to hell with functional ;)
