Squids-
With all the really cool drum loop packs you guys have been releasing lately, it occurs to me (while I'm looking at all the slick IK boxes on my shelf) that the one meat-and-potatoes product that seems to be missing from the IK arsenal is good drum program like RMX, Guru, BFD, EZ Drummer, etc.
Sure there are interesting drum 'elements' in SS2 and ST, and you can create some pretty interesting tracks fairly quickly with them, but there are obvious limitations, and a dedicated box could be really great.
Are there any plans on the drawing board for something like this? Does StudioPhonik have a groove box utility? Or do I just break down and buy one of the above?

Of course it would be cool to have a GURU-like application from SR/IK, especially if could also handle loop materail other that drum loops. Imagine this in conjunction with RAW. 
As I see it, SR looks like it's more focussed on samples and loops, not on software development. So that would be something for IK to do.

nah i disagree. too many drum samplers out there. if any type of new sampler from IK i'd like to see IK making a vsti loop station - sort of like ableton live, dblue glitch, reaktor all in one. probably not likely.
as for sonic reality - i'd like to see squids go to Turkey and make the most detailed string orchestra from that part of the world.

I don't think they need another drum sampler, and I don't think that's what he's talking about. I think what he wants is something like Slicey Drummer/Fill-In Drummer that can be used in tandem with their drums.
Though I think there are many things out there like this, it may be an option to have a plugin that loads their kits and simply runs some MIDI through them.
And getting a real drummer isn't an option for everyone. It would be nice. But in my experience, drummers are often more of a pain then they're worth. That's why 50% of all commercial albums have the drummers replaced with session drummers. The band usually doesn't even know.
I don't think it's a bad idea for the groove box though.

I actually tried the demo a while ago and remember thinking it was a bit limited, like a toy, but now I see that it's new and improved, whatever that means. Does anyone own this and care to comment?

When I bought ST2, SS2 and T-Racks from ttoz, he threw in Groovemaker for free. I didn't want it. Until I tried it. SUPER fun to screw around with. I have 2.0 and never added any of the other songs you can buy or updated to 2.5 which seems worthwhile.
It really serves no purpose except to slam together a fast-moving track in literally a few minutes. I've used it to score little home-made skate movies and such for the neighborhood kids. You could make hours of these things without breaking a sweat.
Serious music? Maybe in the hands of someone more willing to work at it than me. So, I pretty much agree with you BERFAB, 2.0 is a silly pleasure you can't tell your friends about.
Now that you mention it though (along with what koolkeys said), I use microTonic to play DR008 all the time--I like it better than Slicy/Fill-in, even--I need to see how it does with SampleTank! Will do tomorrow when I get back to my little studio.
