If you notice some of my previous posts, I have been trying alot of hosts. In other words, I have been host-jumping. If they paid for learning hosts, I would be very rich. Finally, I truly believe I have found the right one for me, Orion. Not to show off, but here is the list of hosts that I learned in the past:
- Ableton Live
- Steinber Cubase/Nuendo
- ImageLine FL Studio
- Emagic Logic
- Cakewalk Sonar
- Cakewalk Project 5
- Cockos Reaper
- Adobe Audition
- Brambos Tunafish
- Fasoft N-Track studio
- Jeskola Buzz
- Jorgen Aase EnergyXT
- Magix Samplitude
- Making Waves
- Mutools Luna
- Mackie Tracktion
- Renoise
- RML Labs Sawstudio
- Sony Acid
- Podium
I just thought I would post this to remind everyone to demo, demo, demo, and demo as much as you can. No one will be able to tell you which host is right for you. You have to find that for yourself.

That's 21 hosts
You're obviously a very hard man to please!
I've had short stints with FL Studio, Live and Acid (all cracks though), then used Magix Music Studio for a short while. Have now settled with energyXT, and I'm very happy, don't think I'll ever change.

I'm down to eXT and Orion Platinum. Between the two of them I don't think there's anything I can't do.
I didn't try 21 different ones, though! Just Sonar (v1), Tracktion 1 and 2, Cubasis, and Reaper in addition to eXT and Orion Platinum.
Well, I did use to run Logic Gold for the PC, but when Emagic crapped all over their Windows users I dumped it and swore off anything Apple.

i was a host jumper too until i found live. i tried quite a few other hosts since then (floops, cubase/nuendo, tracktion, acid, tracktion, energy xt, podium, audition, sonar, renoise, making waves) just to see if i'm missing anything, but i can confidently say, at the moment there is no other host that suits me as good as live does.

My thing was SX cause It was suppose to be the "industry standard" but the lack of automation fun was killing me.. On the side I started using Audiomulch for a while until I found EXT.. I even was using Adobe Audition as my host for a long time then but then needed FLS.. There were a few others in there I cant think of..

Experimentation is the key. If I had to rank my top 5 favorite hosts as of now, it would be as follows:
1) Orion
2) Fl Studio
3) Logic
4) Ableton Live
5) Tracktion
Just recently I was very interested in Tracktion but the MIDI side and few other things threw me off.

Personally I love live. I've been a host-jumper for sometime as well. I eventually would like to move away from using vsti's again. Mostly for the tactial sensation of a real synth, and to get rid of midi controlers. FRIKBAR this m-audio Oxygen 61's pitch and mod wheels broke after a week. I don't uderstand why I have to pay such a large ammount of money for hardware that uses 20 year old technology.. but thats a different subject.
