HDPHX - Headphone Listening Enhancement for VST
We use our HDPHX plugin routinely when mixing with headphones. It takes advantage of the Haas Effect to provide a delayed and attenuated cross-channel mix in each ear to present the sound that would be heard with a stereo speaker system with speakers placed at +/-30 degrees azimuth from front-center.
The plug-in has no user interface. It simply plugs into your stereo audio output channel, and provides the same high-quality 64-bit computing that our other plug-ins feature.
When listening with HDPHX you will no longer get that ear-pounding, head-shaking, strong stereo separation that is so common. Modern recordings are intended mostly for speaker listening. But when listening through stereo headphones you don't normally get the kind of lef-right cross mixing that happens in a room with speaker playback.
Our HDPHX preserves the good stereo separation without producing the fatigue that accompanies long listening sessions with artificially high stereo separation.
Try it out for yourself and see if you agree. It's free, so go ahead and download today.

Thanks, alex! As we all know, Refined AudioMetrics was good enough here to let our folks get their hands on the PLPAREQ free for a period. Many, many people consider it the best EQ out there.

Oh, as I'm having to work with headphones a lot lately (and for quite another while, due to touring and stuff), this is very welcomed! Gonna check it out today!

Somehow HDPHX & Mixing in Headphones bothers crap out of me. I would like to hear more input from developers (by the way, I am not bashing soft, I give my respect to Refined AudioMetrics, I have tried their Eq, best eq I have worked with)

It would be useful to be able to use this with a Music player like Winamp or QCD too

Oops, I cannot start it in Wavelab5, it crashes it for some reason.
Otherwise, I believe it is very good because it comes from the makers of PLParEQ and CLAS, must be good
Cheers!

Nope, I couldn't get it working at all. It also made my headphones go f#%$ing SNAP! when I inserted it into an effects slot. Whatever that is, it must be some sort of bug, and I don't plan on using it again unless I have my headphone amp switched off before inserting it, otherwise I get that dreaded click. Not sure if it would damage my headphones or not, probably not, but 'tis better to be safe than sorry.

Hm. Not sure WHERE the difference is, but there's one. To me it seems to be some sort of enhanced "center field" thing. Should try a bit of mixing with and without it.

After some testing in Winamp (through Christian's dsp_vst + eXT) and can't help the impression that HDPHX makes mixes boomy/muddy - sort of overcrowded around 80-150Hz. Maybe some 'corrective eq' could be applied to get the widening effect keeping a neutral frequency response? Gotta do some experiments at home with a white noise generator and a spectrum analyzer

Yes! We have the mix&delay (partial mix & delay of left headphone to the right and vice versa).
Now.Is it possible to enhance it also with other aspects as sound coloration(difference beside delay and volume) between both ears when for example listening to the left-sided sound and vice versa? I'm not sure if it makes any noticable difference, so take it just as an idea?

to me it is a very subtle difference,
feels like the mix is a tiny bit more "roomy".
well not that much of a difference.
But I might try it on some serious mix I'll be doing the next days.
