FL6 - FPC - why use this?

What are the good applications of FPC beyond just loading the drum sound into a regular channel? I know that you get velocity splits, but if you are NOT using a MIDI trigger (keyboard, etc) to write your drum parts and really would like to use those little dots with a mouse...

I guess the question is what's the advantage of using this as opposed to just loading your drum into a channel directly?

Thanks, all, the answers here are always worth their weight in gold. (That they actually don't
weigh anything at all on a physical level is another point entirely!)

It saves you the hassle of building a layer just to be able to sequence your drums part in a single piano roll channel. It's also pretty flexible which is a real plus too. My only gripe against it is that like all FL plugins you can't select a midi port for it.

FPC doesn't have filter. :(

Post

you can set each pad to output to any fx channel you wish and insert as many filters as your cpu can handle on the said channels.

but all said - i still use standard sampler channels for my drums when im sequencing - unless i actually want to play a kit with my midi keyboard

Post

loomchild anyway there's no filter per note.

Post

yea thats tru - no filter envelopes for fpc - yet - i bet there will be tho....

Thanks, all.

As always, appreciate the input from different points of view as far as what "works" in different applications, styles, workflow, etc.

1) velocity splits
2) velocity splits
3) velocity splits
4) umm... oh yeah, velocity splits

first, I assume the "little white dots" are the step sequencer...which imho is a complete and utter waste of programming....the piano roll is far superior...forget the mouse try fpc with...

btw I actually don't use fpc because there are better solutions if you don't mind spending a few paychecks...but it is useful, and there are some good kits available from what I understand...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Indeed, Kontakt2 is easily the best sampler for drums out there..
I can map out an 8 piece, 16-layered drumkit in a few minutes.
The script engine, with its humanisation possibilities, is awesome for injecting random jitter, swing & variation into programmed drums.

FPC is good for quick'n'dirty velocity layers, as well as sharing drumkits around, or programming from one gen channel without using layer channels.
