I think I replied to where he will now understand the purpose and need for the device [and that his description of the device, quoted above, was exactly right on] so I hope he will supply some details soon.
FANF*CKINGTASTIC!! Quinto: YOU ROCK!! If he can give me
directions/schematics I can build it. Perhaps I can build
one for every one us that wants one....my guess is that
would be EVERY EZ owner!! :D

I really think this device is essential for worry free live playing. I've used my laptop successfully but I'd much rather use a dedicated synth module.

Quinto thinks that the hardware midi merger device can be built using the same circuits that are inside his breath controller called "Breath" < http://www.sknote.it/hardware.htm > , but without a breath transducer. Costs can be further reduced by replacing the housing with a standard small one. He can do a simple test next week, when working on controllers again, to test if it can track notes from 6 channels.

For the test he needs to know if there are more messages from the EZ other than noteon noteoff? I don't know much about midi myself - there is velocity info, right? And pitch bend?....what else?

A midi channel merger type unit would be great! I use the midix program when I want to use a module, then uninstall midiyoke when I want to go straight to vsti's.

Here's one someone made specifically for the EZ-AG:

Still not as useful as the scripts, though.

Perhaps M&M can answer this better than us....I'm pretty
midignorant myself.

Oh, no doubt about that! 8) The scripts are a godsend in
the studio, but I really want to play live without a
computer!! :D

that's nice. Thank you. I'll write those guys and ask if they plan to modify their box to provide more functions.

Well, an early demo and certainly buggy version. You can put both apps in your VST folder, then create a shortcut to the standalone (exe).
Note that you'll need the standalone running if your host doesn't support sysex with VSTi plugs (all except SX ?)

Is there a way to use this with my sequencer (Tracktion 2) instead of the .hta file?

Thanks

Hi Alan,

You can either use the standalone like the script, using the EZ Out Port (Notes). The advantage over the script is mainly latency, as it's written in C/C++ and uses a smarter algorithm to catch the events.
Also the hammer/pull off allows you to play glissando's (adjust with the "Hammer Time" tolerance slider).
To play without the strings, adjust the fret velo slider (Hammer/Pull Off must be unchecked)

For the VSTi version, you will still need to run the standalone and enable the EZ Out Port VSTi. But this should work with all hosts supporting VSTi_MIDI (including Sonar 5, I think)

For Cubase user it's a little easier as you don't need the standalone, just make sure that in the MIDI Filter pref both sysex are unchecked.

As this demo doesn't save anything, the VSTi version is a little useless.

Also, it's possible to compensate for string velocities, but currently only by editing directly in the registry (regedit.exe) under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NCPLUS APPLICATION\EZ_G\StringVeloA, where you can set the lowest and highest velocities for each string.

hey, just had a play with the standalone, seems to work perfectly, no trouble at all.
one think, by default, Quit button is selected so if I press enter, the standalone is closed. otherwise it already have the most needed features, so thx for releasing it!!

Thanks for this. I've got it working with Tracktion 2 and it's looking good. The sliders are really user-friendly.

Keep up the good work. :)

HI CL, I don't think that chainer can deal with VST-MIDI at all. But in Nuendo, you should be able to connect directly to the VSTi, without using the standalone app.
