Seeing that this plug cost 3 times as much as my current eq, I going to have to wait for the group buy...

I don't understand how is this possible.Frippertronix wrote:I can't get the dongle-less demo to work on my machine. It gives me the same Synchrosoft error (no license on the dongle) as the dongle demo. I have a Synchrosoft dongle plugged into the machine---maybe taking it out would stop the error?
I'm not trying the dongle version because I don't have my music machine hooked up to the internet.
Dongle less demo is absolutely free of protected code and of dongle-relative code,
so you should not have this error.
Please check that the filename and plugin name for the dongle less demo is "AirEQDemo".
For the dongled demo, it is "AirEQ".

Thanks !!soundpalace wrote:Sound: Beautiful, I truly love what this EQ sounds like, it is so smooth and at the same time it's so musical, wonderful job.
It was a real (hard) choice to decide to not make a graphical curve for AirEQ. But I truely believe that when you have no curve, you are more focused on the sound and less on designing a pleasant curve or a "I should have this type of curve because I want this result" curve on your screen.soundpalace wrote:GUI: I'm sorry but I dislike it. The reasons are ... I dislike the button approach used (I'd match prefer a switch since it's easier to see what you're doing). [...] I truly do prefer to have a graph view and control points. Once you get used to seeing what you're doing to the sound, it's hard to go back. I relate the sound back to the EQ curve, personally this is a huge drawback for me.
Becoming familiar with AirEQ's workflow is maybe longer than with other EQ plugins, because there is no graphical curve display, but I think it worths to "go back" : I also experienced this, and my mixes sounded better, my equalizing work was easier and faster without any curve at all.
I also tried to hide the EQ curve while equalizing a track, and to look at the curve when I was satisfied by the equalization sound. Each time I did this, I was surprised by the result, and every time I thought : "But.. how can I have made this strange curve ? It's so weird !!".. But it was the curve that the sound needed, not the curve that my eyes needed, nor the curve that I would have seen and which I thought to be good for the sound.
I agree that using a curve or not is also a matter of taste, and that it can be very useful in some cases. Also it can be an excellent learning and analysing tool.
This feature will be available in a next version of AirEQ.soundpalace wrote:There should be a way to type values in with the keyboard for all parameters. I truly do prefer to have a graph view and control points.
In fact we are not new in the audio industry, and we already developed other audio products, including plugins, as individuals in other companies. About the dongle protection, Syncrosoft is here to verify and to ensure that the protection implementation is done correctly. We could not release the product without the Syncrosoft approval.soundpalace wrote:However, at this stage I would never buy a single plugin by a relateively new developer to run on a dongle. No offense to you at all, but if we were talking about Korg Legacy Edition (huge company), no probs, I'd buy that in a second and run it off the dongle, but a new company which I have not seen history of would not be something I would consider to buy if it is dongle protected.
And we'll buy all versions of major hosts, especially those which are Syncrosotf protected, to be sure that no bug will be left uncorrected.
Thanks for your feedback !soundpalace wrote:I'll be keeping an eye on your products to see how they progress. Great work on this EQ.

I tested aireq and... WOW! I love its sound! IMHO the high quality of this product justifies its relatively high price tag. I only don't like that dongle...

So here is the comparisons between Orfanidis and analog reference curves :
WHITE : Reference curve
RED : Orfanidis
The first example is a bell boost @18kHz, Q=3, 30dB.
It shows that the Orfanidis curve can not be matched at all with the analog reference.
On the left shot, the Q was ajusted to match the lower part of the curve,
and on the right shot, the Q was adjusted to match the upper part of the curve.
Here you can get the full screenshots :
18Khz Q=3 30dB 1
18Khz Q=3 30dB 2
Same thing here, for a bell boost @10kHz, Q=7, 30dB.
10Khz Q=7 30dB 1
10Khz Q=7 30dB 2
And a zoomed version of the bell boost @10kHz.

10Khz Q=7 30dB 1 zoom
10Khz Q=7 30dB 2 zoom
We can see that the Orfanidis curves are asymmetrical for some tuning parameters, and that's a major problem when equalizing. The equalized track may sound metallic or unnatural, especially for high frequency tuning parameters.
AirEQ's curves are very close to the analog reference curves, the difference between the two is almost null until 20 kHz, whatever the sampling frequency is.
I could post the same kind of curve comparisons for AirEQ if someone is interested.

Eliosound.

Just gave this EQ a try. It sounds quite good indeed. Very light on cpu which makes it a "go to" eq. However, it has some major graphical bugs in FL Studio. Closing and re-opening the eq randomly shifts the buttons upwards. It reminds me of the early Arturia synthesizers GUI bugs in FL Studio.
Cheers!

I was too curious about the behaviour near nyquist and it differs very well from the standard orfanidis implementation. Heres the plot (definitaly the last one, i promise):

We updated AirEQ to version 1.05.
The download links remain the same.
Now AirEQ is available in RTAS plugin format, for Mac OSX and Windows.
Demo version was also updated.

Since our filters are not based on orfanidis, but on AMLT..

Nice eq. You know that "not able to save" feature might just be irritating enough to make me buy the thing. But I like that approach to letting us test it out.
It may have been just the material I was working with, but it seemed to do really interesting things to the mids, it seemed kind of 3D, and it revealed things about the sounds I was working with that were a bit surprising to me -- more surprising since I was pretty familiar with the tracks.
Interesting.
Cheers.
