Phthalo have been one of my fave labels from the get-go, so I'm extra happy to have been released on Phthalo.

Yes you can modify the contest samples and use your own, too.

Not sure whether I'll find the time to mangle something together, but I found the sample sets to be a bit short on melodic/harmonic material as well.

I totally agree with you; feel free to chop up the textures and what is there to make your own melodic elements.
