May I add:
SawStudio: "We sell our sons and daughters for an upgrade!"
In the past upgrades have been $100. There have only been two paid upgrades since 2001.

Before you libel someone get your facts straight.
Calm down Bill!
First it is a 'fun' thread.
Second, the 'facts' that I depend on is a thread started here before called something like this "Why SawStudio is so expensive?" or something similar. Inside the thread there was a link to their forum, and I read it where many of them were saying "I'll sell my new baby and upgrade ..etc".
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

O.K., rampage over.

But I refuse to enter a 12-Step internet rage program. :D

In fact, I don't think I've even given anyone the finger driving in at least 18 months. :o

You guys aren't gonna make me grovel or squeal like pig, are you?

For squealing like a pig, I'd recommend Hyde Park Forum. :hihi:

I hate sawstudio. It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen on a computer screen. I fail to see through its ugliness.
You can change the shade...

more like the box to keep the litter in. them users seem to produce a good lot of it.

Digital Performer, by FAR the hardest to use, buggiest, and most limited piece of monkey do do that I have ever used. I had to use it to get some music projects done for a class, and it was a f**king horrible experience. If you're on OSX, do yourself a favor (and buy a PC :P) by staying far away from any incarnation of DP.

saw studio must sound pro-master-9000 or something because it's about the nastiest thing in the world to gaze at. scary thing is my ex employer had a copy of saw studio from NAAB he bought, and even with his manual and stuff he couldn't sort out how to do some things. of course he's kind of daft but.. he also bought fast eddie and acid 1.0 (this gives you some reference to the chronology).

seriously how can that dude get away with selling saw studio for that price? wtf is special about it?

How this fucktard keeps getting work is one of life's biggest mysteries.
He says he is a germaphobe and can not stand being touched in any way by other people, but people I know who have met him say he is just an asshole.
I want to duct tape him to a chair in his house and then make him watch as I go around rubbing my ass and balls on all his stuff.
Then I am going to take a piss on his carpet and then tip him in his chair over into it.
Then I am going to point and laugh at him as he tries to sqirm out of the wet spot.
Then when I leave I am going to take a shit in the front seat of his car.
I hate that fuckin dickhead

Before you libel someone get your facts straight.
before you act like an ass, look at the smilies.
How about adding some more smilies? I'm not going to get drawn in to this.

This forum is filled with foul, adolescent language. Absolute slander in the most towel-snapping, indecent sense (look at some of the comments about Roger Nichols). Sure I don't agree with his business practices, but nobody should be called some of things I've read here.

Ben, you are lucky this whole forum and its parent company hasn't been sued out of existence.

Really, I suggest that you clean it up or shut it down. It's only a matter of time before some of this stuff causes some really expensive legal problems.

no one puts a gun to your head to make you read 'this foul adolescent' stuff. wtf is going to sue over a forum?

everyone is joking around, but make sure the attorneys read this:

Roger Nichols is a f**king slimy, shifty, egomaniac has-been and he deserves every single lashing he gets, and one more for his demonic, greedy, and selfish ways. he's a old creepy scumbag period. what he did was wrong.

sue me.

Post

Okay, apparently I missed something recently; what exactly did Roger Nichols do to deserve the ire from all? (I'm really asking, not being a smart-ass. I really don't know the scoop.)

Although I nominated Cubarse right near the beginning of the thread, that is in part because I forgot Project 5. It appears that lots of people have forgotten P5 in fact. :P

How can a developer who produces something as great as Sonar Producer also spend years developing P5? Perhaps its me - these things are very much down to personal taste I am sure. But P5 really sucks in my opinion.

Nobody really needs convincing that version 1 of P5 was aweful - the whole world seemed to agree on that some time back. But when version 2 came out there were people around who proclaimed that the lump of coal had been transformed into a diamond. Personally I think they got it wrong.

The interface is pretty enough, although how you are supposed to read pale grey against pale blue in the piano roll is beyond me. And some GUI elements (e.g. the piano keys) are completely out of proportion. But where it really goes pear shaped is the included instruments. Dimension is fine (although not as good imho as some claimed it to be). But PSYN II really doesn't do it for me at all (I have it in Sonar 5 as well, and I think they put it into Kinetic now. Soon they'll hopefully dump it entirely instead of trying to get some worthless mileage out of it). After that we quickly descend into the "not even as good as most freeware" category. DS864, nPulse and Velocity are monumentally awful, both in terms of sound and looks. To think they launched these instruments as an alternative to Reason is hilarious!

When it came out I think they were askin for £295 for it, which quickly came down to £195. Recently as a Sonar user I was offered it by Cakewalk for a mere £69. They can't seem to get rid of the thing! So I ran the demo again just to check it really is as bad as I remembered. Surely at £69 I couldn't go wrong? Well, suffice it say I passed by the offer. I believe in "less is more" as a general rule anyway. And the fact is that I would not install P5 even if they gave it away free to me.

I think the reason that I forgot to mention P5 initially is that the word "passion" appears in the thread title. It's hard to get at all passionate about something quite so bland and forgettable as Project 5. But in terms of professional music applications from respectable companies, P5 has to be at the top of the pile for being rubbish alongside the competition.

As they say, just my $0.02

Erm, yes, where have you been? :o

He bought Elemental Audio... changed the names of all their plugs to very silly ones, nearly doubled the price, and added PACE iLok copy protection. Hardly a crowd pleaser

As Computer Music magazine put it in their news headlines:

"Elemental gets Rogered".

I hope that Bill OC remembers to sue them too. After all, we can't have people publically criticising such a nice fellow as Roger, can we? :P
