They are just interfaceless plugins like most VST effects. Its a basic, but standard, thing that VST's can use to build their own interface. Every application has it.

The MultiFX and BandFXcontainers are under |Insert|FX Holder| or you can route things through one fo the busses and use the extra Inserts provided there.

how do you edit automation? i was able to record and then wiggle controls and it recorded them, but where does this information go? can i get at it?

If you are in Pattern mode, the EVT button on the lower-right edge of teh Piano Roll will expose the pattern Event Editor. Juast select the paramter from the drop-down [parameters with automation are highlighted in red]. In Song mode, right-click on the paramter in the GUI and select Edit Song Events or hit CTRL+E on your keyboard to bring up an Event Editor window.

Pattern renaming is there but IMHO its completely f**king useless the way it had been implemented - right-click on the pattern grid to see a list of pattern names.

The other side of that coin is that if you want to get a groove going before you even bother with Song mode, which is the way 99% of people would work in a pattern-based host, you can get as many patterns as you like, all with different lengths [16, 32, 64, etc] and they'll just loop seamlessly. You just need to get your head around the best way to exploit ORION's features.

Not strictly speaking but it runs about 250% more efficiently on my new Centrino-Duo laptop than it did on my last one, which was only 8 months old when they replaced it for me, even though each core in the new one is slower than the CPU on the old one. There seems to be plenty of off-loadeding of stuff onto the second core anyway, even without explicit dual-core support. I did some tests taht showed the same song dropping from 50-65% CPU usage on the old machine to 20-25% on the dual-core, using the same USB I/O device running the same driver with the same settings.

for the effects ui's, those are very pretty for VST wrapped controls.. can these be used outside of orion? i wasn't able to locate separate dll files.

ok i plumped up the dough, at that price seemed silly not to.
unfortunately i have no time to play with it for any decent amount of time.
however i like the collapsible mixer strips

as a reaktor user thats quite essential

new distortion looks nice too have to give it a whirl in the morning i guess

Okay, I upgraded. I had forgotten just how fun and easy this program is. I can bash out a bunch of loops to sketch out a song in no time at all... which is what I'll probably continue to use it for, and then arrange somewhere else. Toxic III sounds fantastic. I really like all the improvements, and I feel like an idiot for spouting off numerous times about how I've moved on and wouldn't upgrade again.

Maybe this will teach me to keep my big mouth shut... Rich, please forgive me!

Orion was my first way back when it was 29 dollars.

I don't know if I'll upgrade or not yet. I have to admin I made alot of tracks with Orion.

Invariably I start with just a pattern, be it drums or a bassline or a synth rhythm or even just a nasty, distorted noise that sounds interesting when you loop it. It may end up as the verse or the chorus or even just a bridge but I'll usually take it and create all the other parts of the arrangement from it before I go into song mode and start arranging.
Normally I will have, as a minimum, basslines for verse and chorus and the main drum patterns done before I go into song mode to start to work with, although often I will have every single element ready before I start to put it together.

And no, you cannot extract the synths or effects from ORION, they are properly integrated to keep efficiency at maximum.

mmmm got the bad taste of the trailer right out of my mouth.
Killer upgrade price and enough stuff to validate it as a new version number.
Might take a bit to get used to the new shortcuts
and admittedly haven;t fooled with it yet,

except you cant chose which mixer strips to collapse, onlt how many of them, whch makes its useless for stuff like CronoX3 etc.

One day i may be able to download it, until then, its the old beta for me....

C'mon nuffink, orion may be too limited for artistic midi routing, but you have always the option to use energyXt as instrument and subhost. Place your midi generators there and connect them with the instruments. This way I use my own midi generators since a long time.

Orion will never allow complicated routings as they are possible in ext, because an application obviously cannnot be at the same time simple and complicated ...
