Otherwise I might've given it a try, but as I'm usually working along vocals, this is a no-no for me. I hadn't even kept a single line of them if I were the original recording engineer. Sorry.
Sascha.....

you are so right. :scared:

I've entered 2 remix competitions lately because I loved the vocals, Artful Dodger being one. This, however sounds pretty poor tbh. Doesn't inspire me at all.

pschelfh, great remix. A bit Electroclash-ish. Fits the vocals :)
Well... at least it's a song, I found it easier to remix a song than an instrumental. Talking about instrumental, if you don't like the vocals, you can always make an instrumental version, even a trance mix if you want :D.
Thumbs up to you for having a remix competition. Great initiative. If there had been prizes I was interested in I might have participated. I hope you get a lot of entries though. :)

Well, I'm probably not like any sort of typical remixer (if any remixer at all). I'm not all that much interested in mashing up rhythmical things or whatever. I'd rather build a more or less new song around the center thing of what makes up for a good composition for me; the melody that is. And while altering a lot of things (such as reharmonising stuff), I still try to keep the "spirit" of the song.
This is why I usually only keep the vocals. Sometimes I would then rebuild the original structure around them in a rough way (simple drums, full note bass and piano chords) and see what else I can come up with, or what other of the original elements I may then throw in.
Now, with a source being almost completely free of any sort of catchy melodies, with the few melodic lines being performed like by someone who's never seen a mic before, further being so much out of tune it's almost beyond belief - well, there's not much left to work with for me.

Unfortunately, a lot of the remix contests you can find around are based on material where melodies and proper vocals are tough to find (such as most contests of Acidplanet).
Well, this might only be me, but don't find much inspiration in all those...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Here we go, mgiht as well just post a few words which I sent in my submission email here.

http://www.archive.org/download/TOMWOJ- ... ckbird.mp3

Gear Used: EnergyXT Host, Audacity, Wusikstation VSTi, MinimougeVA VSTi, DBlue Glitch VST, various mda effects VST's, Kjaerhus Classic FX.

Enjoyed the remix very much, I dont usualy use a lot of premade loops within my songs, I usualy create my own loops and tweak the sound I want to get from the very start of a piece, so using samples that I didnt build from the ground up was challanging for me. I did not use any of the vocal tracks for this.

The aim for my piece/remix was to be an instrumental glitch/breakbeat tune with a marching rhythm, I did not feel as thought vocals would have sat well with the piece, and I could not get the vocals to gell with what I already had. In terms of actualy remixing the original song I dont think I have done very well, i merely used the samples from the pack to form a short instrumental song of my own.
