seriously how can that dude get away with selling saw studio for that price? wtf is special about it?
If you don't know why it is expensive and what is so special about it then you don't need it... Try it out instead and se why it is expensive... It's a very well written program that is fast and very stable. You can also use it as a live mixing desk, WHILE recording... Try that with Cubase or some other host...

thanks for answering zymac. i was inquiring not because i was interested in purchasing but because i just don't understand how it can sell.

you can use any host as a live mixing desk while recording... any that i've tried anyway. unless i'm missing something?

Post

I mean as a mixing desk to a PA system, but maybe that's what you mean too. You can probably use any host for live mixing, the question is how many channels it can handle and how stable it is...

for sure, and that's why threads like these exist :)

so saw studio is the most stable ever? for that price, i'd want 99% uptime, no doubt about it.

i have a very hard time believing that it can do 99% uptime, as it's just a host suffering from the same as the others. especially now that saw studio supports vsti (which, sorry i find laughable that it didn't support them as quickly as the other products -- and you can save the 'well it's only 1 programmer' excuse, because so is eXT and so was Tracktion).

it really needs some UI loving. the worst choices possible were made for the typefaces on some of the stuff. wtf was the guy thinking? i hope he did it himself, and for that reason i'd simply say well done since he's obviously a good programmer selling his stuff for $1000+ and having 'rock stability' supposedly, but man. wtf.

atleast it's not comic sans ms - the worlds WORST type face. http://bancomicsans.com/home.html

i've seen this typeface abused all over my local neighborhood and it drives me completely apeshit to see it. i secretly wish the businesses to fail for their blatant disregard for good design, shit even basic sign design. what an abomination. the saw ui is about the same to me for the same reasons. if he ever wants to improve it, please have him visit my site.

OMG. Grymjack, that is the best website ever! I'm buying a shirt NOW!!!

I was just telling my brother that Comic Sans should be cleansed from the planet. I can't understand people's preoccupation with it..why?!? :bang:

Jumpin' Jesus.

Oh, cut the crapolla. I ain't gonna sue nobody (sorry, that's my English major talking, but I actually majored in Budweiser in college. :D)

I've expressed my disdain for what Roger Nichols did any number of times, but that doesn't mean we have to call him every vicious, disgusting thing we can think of, and then cover our asses with a string of smilies--CLASS...oh, CLASS, will you stop shooting spitballs, and listen-up for a minute?

You just can't call people any goddam foul thing you can think of, because you don't like what they did. (Well, maybe Hitler, who is dead anyway, and Saddam, etc.).

Now, Headquest, can we stop with the flame-throwing? (It might be a good first step in finding your head  )

It's not a composing environment like Cubase etc, for kids playing around with VSTi's. More for replacing a mixing desk and tape recorder, and it does it very well. It very fast and stable, and you can work very fast in the enivronemnt once you learn it, which is pretty easy. If you don't like the GUI, change the shade. And it this probably one of the most stable hosts out there, maybe the most stable...

Erm, well I've not called the guy names EVER. I've not called him anything foul, disgusting or vicious. In fact all I have done is briefly answer somebody's question about him, and quote the (humerous) headline about this fiasco which was published in the Computer Music magazine news section.

So it rather seems to me that you are the one here being unreasonable, vindictive, and singling out somebody (me) for attack. Very strange :? ...

...but perhaps you mistook who it is that has been "flaming" Roger. I have not been involved at all in the thread about this. So perhaps you should apologise for your mistake, and identify whoever it really is that you are so very angry with?

It's a lost cause, Zymac. Trying to explain SAWStudio to many in this crowd is like trying to get some zit-faced looper to understand quantum mechanics.

I hope that Bill OC remembers to sue them too. After all, we can't have people publically criticising such a nice fellow as Roger, can we? Rolling Eyes Razz

Didn't you say the above? What was that little jab all about?

Your post makes no sense at all. Vindictive? Moi? You are simply mistaken, sir.

All I've said all along, is that the ability to post is not a license to say anything you want about an individual.

I have also said that the slime published about Mr. Nichols should be removed, or the forum should be shut down--before he sues their ass off. (Or their parent company).

This is a playground for many wiseass kids who think they can get away with saying anything they want about anybody.

This may be virtual, but it is also the real world, headquest. This place needs a big legal can of Raid.

You can say I have a chip on my shoulder, that I have no sense of humor, and I am a vindictive, angry man.

But you would be wrong.

To quote the old song: "Come on, Children, B-E-H-A-V-E yourselves."

It wasn't about Roger N... - it was about YOU :P

Fact is, your first post in this thread was little more than an outburst of rudeness about the members of the KVR forum. Roger N was not being discussed in this thread at all, yet you came out with your stuff about the forum being sued. What did you expect the response of forum members to be to that?
Bill OC wrote: All I've said all along, is that the ability to post is not a license to say anything you want about an individual.
And yet you then say:
Bill OC wrote:Trying to explain SAWStudio to many in this crowd is like trying to get some zit-faced looper to understand quantum mechanics.
... which suggests that you do think that YOU have the license to make a judgement about grymmjack and call him childish names. You seem to enjoy "casting the first stone", but you appear to be complete hypocrite. Double standards don't go down too well here...

Once again, I have not insulted this Roger N guy in this or any thread. The only reason you have singled me out from the crowd here is because I called you out for your offensive attitude towards KVR members. Considering the contempt that you so obviously have for many of the regulars here, I am suprised that you continue to post here. If you actually have something useful or inteligent to contribute here please go ahead, but if you persist in standing on your soapbox being randomly rude to forum members I doubt you will be welcome for long.

And for the record, no I am not a child. I am a 40 year old professional musician/teacher who trained at the Royal College of Music London and University of Birmingham, and I have several best-selling music textbooks in print. Not that any of that counts here, and nor should it.

I can see that you are pretty new here, and perhaps I should give you the benefit of the doubt. Hang around and I think you will find that there's some highly inteligent people here, and that your attacks are generally unwarranted.

hahaha. is that what all of us are? kids playing around with vstis?

wow, in one sentence you just dismissed most of the people here, and probably made quite a bit of people pissed off. for the record, i'm 31, almost 32 now (can't wait for that, because i am getting some nice new cans for my bday (dt770's!)) so i'm not really a kid.

i guess anyone who doesn't have personal gain be it fame, fortune, or otherwise in mind, or subscribe to the more-better-faster-harder=more money capitalist mindset, when creating music or audio on a computer is automatically a kiddie?

i mean, surely if we could afford the $2500 for the software we're not kiddies? or what about that good faith agreement (how pathetic is that -- yes we know our product is over priced, but if you sign a good faith agreement indenturing yourself to us as if we were creditors, you can download it after a $200 down payment.) surely you must be over the age of 18 too?

as if age has a single thing to do with talent or ambition.

you sound like someone who uses saw studio and hasn't used anything else. any host can do the stuff it does. perhaps there was a time when saw studio was unique, but i bet you that time is long gone and i bet you double or nothing anything saw studio can do any fairly priced host can do the same thing (say for $200 -- the cost of the good faith agreement).

honestly, my bitch was only with the appearance and some poor choices with colors and typefaces. but now that you've summed all of us who 'play with vsti's' up as a bunch of silly kids my bitch is much deeper.

have you tried any RECENT hosts? like say cubase sx, sonar, energyxt, tracktion, etc? the stuff for 'emulating a mixing desk' has been a part of cubase for a long long time, long before sx - as well as it has been a part of sonar since about v1. there is a special product called nuendo that is the cubase version of 'pro-master-9000' and it's probably still less than sawstudio.

does saw come with hardware or anything? does it use a dongle?

i seriously hope that you take some time to listen to and try these 'silly vsti's' that everyone pours their hearts and souls into and such to make music. this is to say; you don't have to spend $2500, in fact, not even $1 if you don't want to, to make great music. of course spending a little bit will make your life easier, but it's a far cry from $2500 to GET STARTED.
